A little consideration for everyone

Bridge is played in close proximity around the table, so if you are feeling unwell or have an infectious illness, please stay at home until you are feeling better.

This helps us keep the club a comfortable and enjoyable place for everyone.

Starting Out with MiniBridge

Good cards. Great company.

If you've never played bridge before, MiniBridge is a great place to start. It introduces the basic ideas of the game without asking you to learn a complicated bidding system straight away.

MiniBridge is a simplified version of bridge designed to help beginners understand how the game works. It allows you to concentrate on the cards, the play and the partnership between you and your partner.

So, What Is MiniBridge?

Like ordinary bridge, MiniBridge is played by four people in two partnerships. Each player receives 13 cards, and the aim is to win tricks for your partnership.

The main difference is that the bidding process is greatly simplified. Rather than having to learn a full bidding system before you can start playing, MiniBridge lets you get to grips with the essentials first.

The idea is simple:
learn the basics of bridge by playing the game, rather than having to learn lots of rules before you can play.

What Will You Learn?

MiniBridge gives you the opportunity to become familiar with some of the most important ideas in bridge, including:

  • How four players form two partnerships.
  • How the cards are dealt and organised.
  • How tricks are won.
  • The importance of the trump suit.
  • How the highest-ranking cards can win tricks.
  • How partners can work together.
  • How the dummy hand works.
  • How to plan your play.

Once these basic ideas start to make sense, learning the full game of bridge becomes much easier.

Learn at Your Own Pace

You don't need to sit down and learn everything in one go. One of the advantages of MiniBridge is that you can take your time and gradually become familiar with the way the game works.

There are plenty of opportunities to practise, make mistakes and try again. That's all part of learning bridge.

Try MiniBridge Online

No Fear Bridge provides a free MiniBridge learning resource designed for people who are new to the game.

It's a good way to get a feel for bridge before coming along to a club or joining a beginners' course.

What Happens Next?

MiniBridge is not a different destination from bridge — it's a gentle introduction to the game itself.

As you become more comfortable with playing tricks and working with your partner, you can start learning about bidding and the other parts of Contract Bridge.

And you don't have to wait until you're an expert before coming along to a bridge club. Learning is much easier when you can play with other people and ask questions.

New to bridge?

Don't worry about knowing all the answers. Everyone has to start somewhere.

If you'd like to learn more about bridge or find out about playing at Llandudno Bridge Club, we'd be very happy to hear from you.
