TIM NELSON

Tim grew up in a small farming community in Eastern Washington.  He received a Master’s Degree from Washington State University (Go Cougs!) in Social Work.  Tim worked as a resident counselor for troubled youth in a group home.  One day, a girl he knew had chocolate covered marshmallows delivered to him by a friend.  Tim enjoyed them thoroughly and then discovered that they were actually kitchen sponges that had been dipped in chocolate.  This girl also climbed through the window of his apartment and covered the toilet seat with Vaseline.  These acts caught Tim’s attention and the two were married for 34 years.  Tim enjoys going to estate sale and shopping at Thrift Stores.  One day, his wife discovered a store and they went in to browse only to discover they were in someone’s home by mistake.  Tim also enjoys hiking and backpacking.  His most memorable trip was from the Oregon/Washington border to the Canadian border on the Pacific Crest Trail in 2014.  He carried a 50 pound pack on his back.  It was a beautiful and arduous 500 miles trek.  At one point, he came to a river that needed to be crossed.  In order to manage the crossing, he jumped from rock to rock, teetered across a mossy log, leapt to a sand bar and made it without falling.  Continuing on the hike, he ran across a middle-aged couple so he told them about the dicey river crossing and that they may want to turn around.  They responded by asking Tim why he hadn’t used the bridge!

After his wife passed away in 2019, Tim retired and moved to Memphis in 2021 to be closer to his daughter and her family.  He enjoys the weather and being close his three grand boys and the people of Memphis.  Even though he misses the snow in Spokane, he does not miss shoveling it!  He spends his free time traveling, hiking, playing trivia, entertaining his grandchildren, going to estate sales, car club stuff and, of course, playing Bridge!
