Educational Offerings For Fall 2019
Educational Offerings For Fall 2019

The Lightman Bridge Center is offering FIVE classes this fall, according to the new LBC Education Coordinator, Tom Ebers.  Two of these are geared toward individuals who have no bridge experience whatsoever. Another two courses are aimed at intermediate players who want to add several conventions to their bridge armamentarium, improve their ability to play a hand, and/or polish their defensive skills.  The fifth class is for advanced intermediates who want to bring their game to a whole new level.  For details see the Fall Bridge Classes tab on the left.

Jane Eason will conduct two 4-hour workshops based on Jeff Bayou’s A Taste of Bridge.  This book for total novices was written by the man who runs two of this country’s largest bridge centers.  Jane’s introductory classes will introduce attendees to the world of bridge in a friendly, relaxed manner that takes the anxiety out of the process of learning to play the game.  Tom Ebers will then conduct a series of six lessons with this group, using the same A Taste of Bridge methods.

Three additional courses will introduce intermediate-level players to various ‘new’ conventions and give them opportunities to fine-tune their offensive/defensive skills.   Lee Smart will offer “Pick a Convention”, during which the class will decide which convention they want to learn the following week.  The boards for that next session will be geared toward the new topic that the students pick.  Diane Dillman will teach “Further Development on the Basic System,” which will review various conventions and then gear play-of-the-hand sessions toward honing declarer and defensive skills.  Finally, Diane’s “Beyond the Basic System” will take advanced intermediate players through more-complicated defensive maneuvers and advanced conventions.
