Call the Director Immediately
Mistakes happen. Insufficient bids, bids out of turn, or leads from the wrong hand by either declarer or the defenders are all situations that require the director's assistance.
Call the director immediately. Do not expose another card or attempt to correct the situation yourself. Avoid explaining why you are calling the director before they arrive. Once the director is at the table, give a brief, factual explanation of what occurred. If your explanation could reveal unauthorized information, ask to speak with the director away from the table.
When Partner Gives an Incorrect Explanation
- If your partner gives an incorrect explanation of your agreement, do not react or attempt to correct it during the auction. Continue to bid and play according to your partnership agreements.
- If you become declarer or dummy, call the director immediately after the auction has ended and before the opening lead is faced.
- If you are defending, do not say anything during the play. At the conclusion of the hand, call the director.
Know Your Bid Before Reaching for the Bidding Box
Decide on your call before reaching into the bidding box. Pulling one bid partway out and then selecting another can convey unauthorized information to your partner and may result in an adjusted score or other penalty.
Save the Post-Mortem for Later
Please avoid discussing the hand at the table after play has finished. Other players could be affected by overheard comments. Save your analysis until you have left the playing area.
