The Lancashire County Bridge Association (LCBA) is the official United Kingdom County Bridge Association for the Lancashire County. We exist to foster and encourage the playing of the fine game of Contract Bridge, both within these counties and in national competitions, and to draw up teams to play against neighbouring Bridge associations.The North Western Contract Bridge Association area was one of the original counties forming the English Bridge Union in 1936. Eventually in 1987, the LCBA was formed when it was decided to divide the former very large (both geographically and membership-wise) North-West Bridge Association into three separate associations. The geographical area covered is that of the Blackpool, Bolton and Blackburn and Southport areas of the former North West Contract Bridge Association. The other two associations thus created were Manchester CBA and Merseyside&Cheshire CBA - so today in the North West we have 3 times as many events to participate in as we had before this administrative restructuring. No wonder some of us never sleep! Lancashire became an independent county and started to run its own county events.  There were competitions for the Corwen qualifying pair and Pachabo qualifying team and teams of eight for the Gazette Trophy. In addition there was an annual two day Congress and other annual County competitions including the Madeleine Berney. Like most organisations of its kind, the LCBA continues to operate due to the voluntary efforts of its officials and many helpers.
