Dates of the regional competitions for the 2024/25 Bridge Season

10th November 2024      Regional Pairs (The qualifier for the National Pairs. This competition will start at 1pm in Kilkenny Bridge Centre. Entries should be sent to George Ryan.

8th December 2024        South Midland Trophy

19th January 2025          Regional Teams (The qualifier for the National Teams)

18th May 2025                President's Prize and Novices' Competition.

The qualifier for the National Teams Championship was held in Kilkenny Bridge Centre on Sunday 19 January. Nine teams participated in the competition. George Ryan and Kevin Kennedy (with teammates Liz Jennings and Peter Ryan) won the competition overall and will represent the region in the Kelbourne Cup, the Masters' section of the teams competition. 

The competition for the South Midland Trophy was held in Kilkenny Bridge Centre on Sunday 8 December. Fran Swift and George Ryan, representing Kilcullen Bridge Club, won the trophy. 

The qualifier for the National Pairs Championship was held in Kilkenny Bridge Centre on Sunday 10 November. Kilcullen bridge club performed well in the competition, winning first and third prizes in the Masters section. The following pairs will represent the South Region in the National Pairs Championship in February: Nora Kelly and Kathy Monks and Fran Swift and George Ryan.

The competition for the 2024 President's Prize was held in Kilcullen Bridge Club on Sunday 12 May.  There was a good turnout from the region with 15 tables and an additional novices' competition of five tables. Margaret and Damien Nee took first place with Kathy Monks and Nora Kelly, representing Kilcullen, in second place.

Constitution

Name:

The club shall be known as Kilcullen Bridge Club.

Objectives of the Club:

The objectives of the Club shall be the playing and promotion of Bridge under the rules of the CBAI and will be fully registered with the Contract Bridge Association of Ireland. 

Membership:

New members shall apply in writing to the Honorary Secretary.  When accepted, membership becomes effective on payment of the Annual Subscription.  Members who have not paid their Annual Subscription by the 31st October in any year shall be deemed to have their membership lapsed and must re-apply. 

Committee:

  • The committee elected each year at the AGM will administer the club.
  • The committee shall consist of the President, Ex-Officio, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer and at least four committee members.
  • The Vice-President of the previous year shall be installed as President.
  • All decisions reached at meetings of the club shall be by simple majority and the President shall have a casting vote in the event of a deadlock. 
  • The committee may call an Extraordinary General Meeting at any time and must call one at the request, in writing, of one third of the members of the club.
  • A quorum of at least one third of the members must be present at any AGM or EGM.
  • The President shall preside over meetings at the club. 
  • The Hon. Secretary and Hon. Treasurer shall administer the affairs of the club as laid down at the AGM and shall furnish all reports to the AGM.
  • Tournament Directors shall be appointed by the committee and run competitions as laid down by the CBAI.

Visitors:

The club welcomes visitors.  Table money must be paid but they are not eligible for any prizes in major club competitions.  Any person who is ineligible for prizes under these rules and forms a partnership with a member in pairs or team events will automatically disqualify the full partnership or teams from the prize winners.  In ordinary competitions, a visitor plus partner shall qualify for the gross prize only.

A member may invite a maximum of three visitors in any one year.  A visitor may play three times in any one year. 

Eligibility for Prizes:

  • In major club competitions, members must have played at least three times before the competition to be eligible for the top two Nett prizes and 1st and 2nd gross prizes.
  • A visitor is not eligible for any prizes in major competitions.
  • A visitor is eligible for gross prizes only in ordinary competitions.

Amendments to the Constitution

Amendments to the Constitution shall be made only at a General Meeting of the Members and requires a two thirds majority vote of the members present at the meeting. 

Honorary Members:

Honorary Membership should be reserved for outstanding service to the club.  The nomination to be proposed and seconded by two club committee members and passed at an AGM.
