BULLETIN

Christmas Charity Collection

Our collection for the Godmanchester Food Bank during the Christmas event raised £118.  Thanks to all who contributed.

County Pairs Final

Congratulations to Stephen and Michael who won the County Pairs final on 17th March.  Other Huntingdon pairs who did well in this event were Eddie & Malcolm who finished 5th (out of 23) and Scott & Bill 10th.

9 High Duplicate pairs

Also successful in a county event were Lynn and Dennis who won the 9 High event back in October.  Unless their results deteriorate in the near future they won't be eligible for this again.  Perhaps they can demonstrate their skills in a Jack high event soon!

British Winter Sim Pairs 2024

Congratulations to David & Malcolm who finished first of 350 pairs.  This is the first time a Huntingdon pair has ever topped a national sims competition.

DRAW BRIDGE

Drawbridge is the exciting new replacement to the Bridge Ladder.  Every week participating pairs will be matched randomly against each other by means of a filmed draw. Some of the rules will be the same as the Bridge Ladder.  Matches will be played between Saturday 9am and Thursday 10pm.  Once the draw has taken place the pairs matched against each other will email to arrange a suitable date and time to play.

Here's the position after the 18th round:

  • 3 points for the winning pair
  • 0 points for the losing pair
  • 1 point if you lose by 5 imps or less
  • 1 point if you bid and make a slam of any sort
  • 1 point if you double a contract which then fails to make
  • Should there be an uneven number of pairs the pair not selected to play that week will be awarded a bonus point.
  • You cannot play the same pair more than twice.  If you are drawn against them for a third time your number will be put back and redrawn.
  • The first number to be drawn in each pair will be responsible for setting up the table
  • After the result one of the four needs to send the results in an email to lynnbboladder@gmail.com and copy in all four players.  It should just say xxxx and xxxxx  3 pts      yyyyy and yyyyyyy 1 point.  (insert names and correct scores)
  • Each week the administrator will send out (with the draw) the running total of the results so you can see how you are doing
  • You can only play the same pair twice.  So if you get drawn against a pair for the second time you won't play them again during drawbridge.
  • If you wish to be the sit out pair because you are away please ask me at least two weeks in advance as the draws for the next two weeks have already been filmed.
  • Should you be unable to play your match due to unavailability of one of the pairs you will have two further weeks in which to complete your match.  If after three weeks the match remains unplayed then no points will be awarded to either pair.

There will be 18 weeks of play taking us from 3rd August till 13th December.

When the scores are tallied finally we will remove your best weekly score and your worst weekly score from the final result.  (This effectively means you can miss a week get no score and have it removed at the end).  The running scores will be sent out every week on Friday morning by email and posted on the Huntingdon Bridge Club site.  The video of the draw for the next week will be available by 9am on Saturday morning but usually the link will be sent out on Friday,

If you would like to do your own draw films please contact Lynn.  The pair numbers could be on table tennis balls, or cards turned over, or written on the bottom of plastic ducks.  I feel sure some of you will be creative.  A two minute draw which is filmed on your phone or iPad is all that is required.  You can share with me on whats app or dropbox and I will upload it.  Watch out too for some celebrities making the draw.

The winning pair will be crowned Draw Bridge Online Champions.

Any pair getting over 40 points will receive a special commendation certificate.

Good luck to all.
