Once again Horning Bridge Club held its annual winter bridge away-day at the Stower Grange Hotel on Monday 13th January 2020.
On arrival at 09:45 members and guests enjoyed tea or coffee in the bar and lounge before settling into the bridge tables to await start of play. Chairperson Ann Riley outlined the approximate timetable for the day and bridge commenced at 10:30. Normal duplicate bridge was played, but having separate N-S and E-W winners to allow for separate winners on the day.
Bridge was adjourned at 12:30 for members and guests to gather in the bar and lounge to partake in a lunchtime drink prior to a delicious two-course lunch provided by the Hotel.
Bridge re-commenced at 2:15 until approximately 3:30 when a special raffle was held in aid of Dementia UK. A fantastic collection of £275.00 was raised for this well-deserving charity, collected by Admiral Nurses.
President Suzanne Gill and Chairperson Ann Riley presented the raffle prizes to the lucky winners.
Following the end of the bridge session, N-S and E-W prize winners were announced and President Suzanne Gill and Chairperson Ann Riley presented the prizes to the winners.
Ann thanked all HBC Committe members for their efforts in making the day a real success, especially Jenny Hemmings and Laurie Platt who did most of the organising of ticketing, menu, seating arrangements, etc. and to director Robert Harber for the smooth running of the bridge event. Also, Stower Grange Hotel staff were thanked for their splendid attentiveness to all throughout the day.
Finally, Ann thanked Brian Cunningham and Laurie Platt for their assistance in transporting all the bridge tables and equipment to and from the venue.
