Following last years' successful Summer Away Day at Wroxham Yacht Club, Horning BC Committee arranged another Away Day, this time at The Old Rectory Hotel, Crostwick.
The days events were held in the Hotel's spacious conservatory restaurant where, on arrival, members and guests were served tea or coffee and settled into the bridge tables to await start of play.
Chairman Ron Hunt outlined the approximate timetable for the day and bridge commenced at 10:15 am. Normal duplicate bridge was played, but having separate N-S and E-W winners to allow for separate winners on the day.
Bridge was adjourned at 12:15 pm and as the weather was particularly inviting (sunny and hot) most of the members and guests gathered outside on the garden patio to enjoy a lunchtime drink prior to settling down for a delicious three-course lunch provided by the Hotel.
Bridge re-commenced at 2:45 pm until approximately 4.00 pm when tea and coffee was available whilst the prize winners were announced and presented by Ron Hunt.
NORTH-SOUTH WINNERS: Peter Wood & Tony Collins
EAST-WEST WINNERS: Peter & Carol Bowman
A big thank-you to the Horning Bridge Club Committee who helped organise a great day out and ordering up some wonderful weather!

This is third time that Horning Bridge Club has held its annual bridge away-day at Stower Grange Hotel - it was an easy decision for the Committee to make, as the previous two visits had been extremely successful.
On arrival at 09:45 members enjoyed tea or coffee in the bar and lounge and then settled into the bridge tables to await start of play. Unfortunately, Chairman Ron Hunt was unable to attend this years' event, so MC duties were undertaken by Vice-Chairman Laurie Platt. Laurie outlined the approximate timetable for the day and bridge commenced at 10:30. Normal duplicate bridge was played, but having separate N-S and E-W winners to allow for separate winners on the day.
Bridge was adjourned at 12:30 for members to gather in the bar and enjoy a lunchtime drink prior to settling down for a delicious two-course lunch provided by the Hotel.
Bridge re-commenced at 2:15 until approximately 3:30 when a raffle was held in aid of the Norfolk and Norwich Blind Association. The charity this year was chosen by Matt Jackson. A magnificient collection of £217.00 was raised for this well-deserving charity.
Finally, the bridge prize winners were announced and Vice-Chairman Laurie Platt presented the prizes to the winners.
NORTH-SOUTH WINNERS: David Smith & Ronnie Hill
EAST-WEST WINNERS: Margaret Whipp & Jenny Hemmings
A big thank-you to the Horning Bridge Club Committee who helped organise a great day out, to all who provided raffle prizes, to Pat Whittle who sold the raffle tickets, and to Robert Harber who was the Tournament Director for the day.
