THE QUEEN'S DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATION - JUNE 11 2012 |
In order to mark the special event of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, members turned out in force for a celebratory party evening of bridge. A wonderful spread of food, including lots of varieties of savouries and sweets, was provided by the members. In additon, a special Jubilee cake was donated by Margaret de Feyter - a photo of the cake can be seen in the "More Pictures" section of this News Item.
Prior to the start of the evening's celebrations, a loyal toast was proposed by President Suzanne Gill.
After the loyal toast, a bridge pivot movement was commenced until halfway through the evening, when a break for food was announced. Following the food interval, a raffle was held - again members were extremely generous in providing the prizes and Pat Whittle did her usual excellent job in organising the sale of the tickets which raised a total of £166.00 for the charity "Nelson's Journey". Nelson’s Journey is a Norwich based charity which supports children and young people under the age of 18 years, living in Norfolk, who have experienced the death of a significant person in their life e.g. parent or sibling.
The bridge pivot movement was concluded, resulting in a North, South, East and West individual winner as shown below. Each winner received a special Royal Worcester Diamond Jubilee Celebration Mug.
Chairman Cathy Smith, who was unable to attend the party, expressed her thanks to all those members who made the evening's event the success it appears to have been.

The Holiday Inn at Norwich Airport again provided a wonderful venue to hold our annual Bridge Away Day.
To start the day, while players were settling down in their places at the bridge tables, we were treated to coffee, tea and biscuits and a general resume of how the day was to progress.

A break from bridge was taken at lunch time with the Holiday Inn providing a splendid cavery buffet with lots of choice.
Bridge continued after lunch until mid-afternoon, when winner's prizes were presented. Everyone enjoyed a really good day.
