Chairman Report 2021-2022

Hemel Hempstead Bridge Club

Chairman’s Annual Report 2021-22

We started the year playing online on both Monday evenings and Thursday afternoons due to the high incidence of Covid-19. At the end of September we returned to face to face (f2f) bridge at the club on a Monday evening. This continued until Christmas, but by January when the rate of Covid in the population had risen again, we returned to online Bridge. Turnout was low when playing at the club but it has increased since returning to play online.

From our recent survey we find we would have a bigger turn-out at our online sessions than we would if we play f2f at the club.

At the AGM we will discuss keeping our sessions online using RealBridge.

There was no membership fee in the year. Table money remained at £2.50 for playing f2f at the club and was £1 for playing online.

Although there is no intention of raising table money, the committee may have to consider a small membership fee, so we know who our members are.

During the year there were some notable successes in Herts competitions:

Our team won the Eccles cup for the second year running and a Hemel team won the Herts league as well as a few well placed positions in other HBA comps.

We didn’t hold a Christmas party but those that played in our last f2f session prior to Christmas enjoyed mince pies.

The Club donated £630 to Charity. £90 to Children in Need, £40 to Marjorie Lujyn and £500 to the Red Cross Ukraine appeal.

Many thanks to Derek Peers and Anne Short for running our RealBridge sessions. They are the main reason our sessions are so cheap at £1.

Thanks also to the committee for all their hard work. Margaret Ainsworth, Derek & Lesley Peers, Anne Short, Roger Edmonds, Naomi Gibbs and Pat Henry.
