GCBA Weekend Events

Cotswold Cup our Charity Event with all profits to the Sue Ryder Hospice

Sunday 2nd  February 2020    Start time : 13.00.      Finish time around 19.00.      Cost £10 pp

Enter as a pair.  Score as a team with international bridge players who have played the hands earlier.

Afternoon Tea + a Raffle (with super prizes!) all proceeds going to Sue Ryder + Bridge Prizes for pairs in different categories.

STANLEY SWISS TEAMS - GENERAL ENTRIES OPEN

The GCBA has been given a sum of money by Keith Stanley with instructions to use it to finance a bridge competition (FREE ENTRY, FREE FOOD, SUBSTANTIAL CASH PRIZES and not just for the top teams) for players in Gloucestershire, as a thank you from him for the pleasure he has received from bridge in Gloucestershire over the years. This has been organised as a Swiss Teams event to take place on Friday 10th January 2020 at the Hatherley Manor Hotel; it will start at MIDDAY and finish by 18:45 hrs, so about five hours of bridge and an hour and a half for lunch.

We now have a complete entry list of 26 teams and but if any Gloucestershire bridge players wish to be placed on an additional reserve list please send the names of your team to sst@gcba.org.uk

Team captains will receive further details within the next week or so.

BRIDGE LESSONS

CHELTENHAM :  The teaching team are starting a new series of lessons starting in September. For more information see the club web site.

GLOUCESTER:  Lessons available on Monday at Gloucester B.C.;  see the GBC website for details.

NEWENT : Starting 27th September 2019 (1850 hrs for 1900).  More details at click here.  EBU qualified teachers, and it runs for two terms.

MALMESBURY (Tetbury & Cirencester) : Robert Cobbold offers "fun and friendly bridge for beginners and beyond.  07526451532" 

TETBURY : Jim Edwards runs lessons as part of the South Cotswolds Bridge Club venture - see the web site.

CHIPPING SODBURY: Lessons start in September after a free taster session on 10th September. - see website

WOTTON-UNDER-EDGE (boundary of South Glos and Glos, NW Wiltshire) : Ian Cooke (accredited EBUTA teacher) offers lessons for beginners, improvers and runs Gentle bridge sessions. Contact details here.

Tollemache :  the EBU's inter-county teams of eight event was held over the weekend of 16/17 November. Thirty-six counties played in four groups of nine teams with the leading two teams from each group qualifying for the final in February. Gloucestershire were lying in mid-table after the first day, but a great performance on the Sunday saw them finish in second place to qualify for the final. Well done to Richard Butland, Garry Watson, John Atthey, Claire Robinson, Richard Chamberlain, Patrick Shields, Richard Plackett & Paul Denning.
