PROMOTING YOUTH BRIDGE |
BFSL committee members have pledged an amount of Rs. 150,000/- a month for one year for promoting Bridge among the undergraduates of The Colombo University.
Anyone interested in sponsoring a student, please contact secretary, Badra Jayaweera.
Further details will follow.
BFSL is undertaking an effort to promote bridge among younger persons and to provide assistance and coaching to such persons to bring them up to a level where they could represent Sri Lanka at various international bridge tournaments geared towards younger Bridge players. To this end, BFSL has arranged for sponsors to fund payments of Rs. 15,000/- per month for an initial period of one year for up to a maximum of 16 suitable young players who would br provided coaching to become proficient Bridge Players.
BFSL is of the view that the University of Colombo is a good source for identifying suitable young persons to take up such sponsorships, particularly studying in fields where logic and reasoning is at a premium. To this end we have developed an Application Form for interested students to apply for the sponsorships. Following this we will interview and select the persons to be offered the sponsorships. Selected students would need to attend two 2-hour coaching classes a week held at a location close to the University. They would also spend additional time as necessary in bridge related study.
NOTE: So far 4 students from the Colombo Science Faculty are undergoing training.
