SURVEY TO CONSIDER A MERGE WITH BOURNE BRIDGE CLUB FARNHAM
At our recent AGM a proposal was made to discover members’ views on a full merger between Farnham Bridge Club (FBC) and The Bourne Bridge Club Farnham (BBCF); this was carried by a large majority. The principal reason for the merger would be to increase attendance and playing opportunities by creating one stronger local club with a larger group of players.
Your Committee will take any final decision, mindful of the results of both surveys, and is deliberately being neutral.
We strongly encourage you to give your views on this important matter.
For any decision on the future of our club the Committee would want buy-in from a large number of our members.
Your committee recommend that you consider the following points:
- Reducing numbers are a feature at many clubs due to age, other competing on-line games and opportunities at non-EBU affiliated clubs. Could a single club help to reverse this?
- Our clubs already cooperate very closely. For example, FBC recently shared the cost of new tables at the BBCF venue and the clubs jointly organise the Currie Swiss Pairs event.
- Members of each club can and do attend Face to Face (F2F) sessions (BBCF on Thursdays with FBC trialling some Wednesdays this summer) and on-line sessions (FBC, Mondays and Wednesdays) for the same table money for both clubs.
- Many people are members of both clubs already as annual subscriptions are very low.
- Both clubs are financially sound.
- With FBC trialling F2F sessions it may be possible to offer 2 live sessions and 2 on-line sessions per week for all members of the combined club.
