Fundamentals of Declarer Play
Add some fun to your day and bridge game with a series of bridge lessons from NABC champion and ABTA master teacher, Kevin Wilson. You will get access to four classes over consecutive weeks via Zoom and BBO and get a short write-up of examples afterwards. Video replays of the lessons will be available for you to review for one year after each lesson. Unlike other classes I have taught, some home study will be required to succeed. Home study handouts will be included in the course materials. This is a class in the fundamentals of card play.
Monday February 12th from 9:00 AM EST- 9:50 AM EST (GMT-5)
Tricks and the Value of Taking Tricks – This introduction class will include discussion of the importance of taking tricks and different methods of taking tricks. The power of honors and promoting tricks through power will also be a focus.
Monday February 19th from 9:00 AM EST- 9:50 AM EST (GMT-5)
Suit Combinations – A discussion of suit combinations and the importance of understanding and successfully negotiating various suit combinations. Some notes on percentages and choices will be included.
Monday February 26th from 9:00 AM EST- 9:50 AM EST (GMT-5)
Finesses – Starting with a basic finesse and continuing into other types of finesses, this class discussion will give you comfort and experience with this critical trick gaining technique. The reason(s) you might not want to finesse will also be included.
Monday March 4th from 9:00 AM EST- 9:50 AM EST (GMT-5)
Taking Tricks with Trumps – Discussion will be about gaining tricks by using the trump suit. Controlling the enemy suit and getting extra tricks will be the focus here.
One payment of $40 will get you access to all four lessons.

Roman Keycard: Blackwood
Kevin will teach you a step by step process to using Roman Key Card Blackwood (RKB). This is a huge convention and it takes time to master. There will be additional classes on slam bidding to follow this four-lesson series. You will get access to four classes over consecutive weeks via Zoom and BBO and get a short write-up of examples afterwards. Video replays of the classes will be available.
Wednesday February 14th from 9:00 AM EST- 9:55 AM EST (GMT -5.0)
RKB Step 1 – Discuss 4NT as Roman Keycard Blackwood and highlight the first response to 4NT. This class will use the 1430 Method. It also covers rules for which suit is the key trump suit when it may not be 100% clear.
Wednesday February 21st from 9:00 AM EST- 9:55 AM EST (GMT -5.0)
RKB Step 2 – This class covers the queen-asking bid after an initial response to Roman Key Card Blackwood. This class will also explore the “Rules of Blackwood”
Wednesday February 28th from 9:00 AM EST – 9:55 AM EST (GMT -5.0)
RKB Step 3 – This class reviews the 5NT grand slam invitation bid and what is meant by specific kings.
Wednesday March 6th from 9:00AM EST- 9:55 AM EST (GMT -5.0)
RKB Step 4 – This class exposes the less frequent responses to 4NT. You will learn how to handle a void and how to show both voids and key cards in response to 4NT.
