CLUB PARTY MAY 9

“A party without cake is just a meeting” – Julia Child

Saturday May 9 was more than a meeting…and more than just a few hours of bridge.  It was our much-delayed Christmas party.  Attendees have commented that it was nice to be able to take some time to socialize with our fellow duplicate players.  And, as Fergie---not sure which one but obviously not a grammar teacher-- said “A little party never killed nobody”. We had lots of good food thanks to Chuck and Lorraine’s efforts and with some contributions from a few bakers. Wendy arrived before everyone to continue the setting up she had started the night before with help from one of the men from the wood shop.  Barb S, Leslie and Terry soon joined her in setting up.  Bernice B organized the musical entertainment which included solos of each of their parodied songs from Barb Mc (A Bertha Hand) and Joel (Don’t think twice, just play bridge).  A group song, Sweet Slamming Hands, was performed by Bernice, Barb Mc, Joel, Barb C and Frieda, accompanied in the refrain by the audience. Jeannette kept the everchanging attendee list.  The sizeable 50/50 was divided among 1. Joel 2. Lorraine R and Doug P 3. Del.  Dave and Ashley contributed some interesting bridge items for a silent auction.  There were a record number of director calls in the game that followed which kept Jim P, with Annie’s help, busy through the afternoon. The clean-up crew consisting of Sylvia, Ginny, Barb S and Leslie, were particularly appreciated after a long day of preparations and intense bridge.

The party was funded by profits from 50/50 sales and money from coffee sales.  For those who couldn’t make it this time, keep in mind F. Scott Fitzgerald’s not-so-famous words for the next one “Never miss a party…good for the nerves ---like celery.”

Yes, we have almost enough money available for another event later in the year.  Lots of time to think of what you can do to help make it fun and memorable for your fellow duplicate players.  In the meantime and…

“Until further notice, celebrate everything.”  Anon
