Teaching

Learning opportunities at Crawley Bridge Club :-

  Bridge for Novices 2023/24

The course is intended for improvers and returners and will not be suitable for complete beginners.  It will assume some familiarity with playing whist and the rudiments of the bidding process.

Format

There will be a topic each week which will be the subject of a brief (less than 15 minutes) revision presentation. The main focus will be play of eight hands being a mixture, some illustrating the week’s topic and others illustrating the next and previous week’s topics.

All tables will play the same hands.  There will be a general discussion of the bidding and play after each hand.  We will use a projector to display the hands with commentary.  In this way, we will recap the whole of the Standard English (Acol) bidding system and the key elements of declarer and defensive play.

Venue

The lessons will take place at Grattons Indoor Bowls Club in Pound Hill on Tuesday evenings from 19.15 to 21.45.  The first term will start on Tuesday 26th September.

Charges

There will be three 10-week terms.  The cost per term will be £30.

Source

All materials will be drawn from EBU sources; particularly the Beginning Bridge Red Book and its associated handbanks.

  Bridge for Beginners 2024/25

This course is intended for those with little or no experience of the game and will equip you to play at a social/competitive level.

The next course will start in Autumn 2024 on Tuesday afternoons in The Ark in Turners Hill.  The precise date will be confirmed shortly.

For further details please contact Helen Kent on 01342-719779 or email Helen.

  Bridge for Improvers

We run Improver Classes over the winter months. These are intended for those already playing competitive duplicate bridge. They take place monthly online on Zoom and BBO. There is a short presentation of the topic but the main focus is on hosted play of example hands where there is the opportunity to discuss the bidding and play after each board.

For further details please contact Richard Jameson on 01293 882888 or email Richard.

  Relaxed Duplicate

These online duplicate sessions on Monday evenings are an opportunity for less experienced players to develop their game in a relaxed setting.  A partner will be provided if you need one.  For further details, see the Crawley Bridge Club BBO Duplicate Pairs Guide or contact Gordon Briggs on 07712-853034 or email Gordon.
