Mentored Individual

A number of our clubs stronger players will be attending the session to play with and against you and provide expert guidance.

Format: There will be 6 rounds of 3 boards played over half an hour or so.  Then Mentor will reamin stationary as North.  Each round you will move to a difference table and pick up a new partner.  For 2 of thse rounds you will partner the Mentor.  You will all play a basic Acol system.

Target Audience: Typical club players.

Hands: Some hands will be randomly dealt;  others will be selected to illustrate particular learning points (bidding on to game or passing in a part score, responses to doubles, declarer play in suits and no trumps, responding to preempts, opening leads, forcing with strong hands, defensive signalling at tricks 1 and 2, overcalling, 1Nx, etc).  Many of the selected hands will be taken from recent club sessions where, with a little thought and a little guidance, you could have done better.  Now is your opportunity to find out how!

Date:  Monday April 14th, 7:00 - 10:00.

Please sign up at the club by April 1st.   Please note that if you sign up you must turn, as we will need full tables for the movement to work.

Intermediate Lessons

Graham Cope's Intermediate Lessons will restart on alternate Friday afternoons, 1:30-3:30/4:00 from January 31st.

These lessons are specific topics aimed at a wide audience from those who have recently completed lessons to more established players who would like revision and new ideas. Each lesson starts with some basic, often revision, material.  It then progresses to new and more advanced ideas, together with more challenging practice hands and problems.  Hopefully something for everyone; although it would be impressive for all but the most able students to follow everything.

Each lesson will be self-contained, and based on specific topics.

March 28th – Preempts, continuations and competing: How preempts vary with seat and vulnerability; knowing when to bid again opposite partner's preempt; competing when opponents preempt

Please sign-up in the club, at least a week beforehand, if you would like to attend.

Cashless Payments

We want to make payments and deductions as easy as possible, allowing us to concentrate on playing bridge. Whether you are playing in person, or online, your payment for the session will be handled electronically. C&NWBC uses BridgeWebs to record participation in games of bridge, which then results in deductions from your C&NWBC account balance.

The preferred method is via electronic advance payment, either an ad hoc bank transfer or a regular standing order to the bridge club account. Alternative methods of payment can be arranged with the Treasurer if necessary.

A single payment account can be used for a couple’s play at the club.

Full details are available at Cashless Payment Process (updated 1st April 2024).
