| Cafe Bridge 2026 |
Tuesday 23rd June saw members playing bridge in five venues around the Belgrade Plaza in Coventry. We were made most welcome, and enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Telegraph Hotel, Bella Italia, Pizza Express and the Belgrade Theatre, whilst the Premier Inn hosted two tables all day for very little return as they don't serve lunch! A great day was enjoyed by all, despite the blistering heat, as all the venues were air conditioned.
The overall winners were Mary Taylor and Robert Zara with a score of 63.33%, whilst Val and Andy Waugh came a very close second with 62.22%. In fact it was very close at the top with 6 pairs achieving a score over 60%. It was appropriate that Mary should win as it was her birthday! Sue O'Gorman and Paul Sutton won the prize for closest to 50% with a score of 51.33%.

Thanks to all the organisers and helpers, but especially to Graham Cope who did the scoring, and to Sue who sweet-talked the restaurants.

| Cashless Payments |
We want to make payments and deductions as easy as possible, allowing us to concentrate on playing bridge. Whether you are playing in person, or online, your payment for the session will be handled electronically. C&NWBC uses BridgeWebs to record participation in games of bridge, which then results in deductions from your C&NWBC account balance.
The preferred method is via electronic advance payment, either an ad hoc bank transfer or a regular standing order to the bridge club account. Alternative methods of payment can be arranged with the Treasurer if necessary.
A single payment account can be used for a couple’s play at the club.
Full details are available at Cashless Payment Process (updated 1st April 2024).

| Life Membership Award |
 |
At our AGM on 11th November David Jones was awarded life membership by our chair Ann Ridgway.
Maggs Pyner spoke on behalf of all the members at Coventry Bridge Club:
I have known David for over 50 years and his achievements during this time in the field of bridge have been immense. He gained a Grand Master rank at a very early age and played for England on several occasions alongside winning many national and prestigious, major tournaments. He is one of the best players that we have had in our club and his son Martin is clearly following in his footsteps.
David worked for the English Bridge Union for many years achieving the status of becoming one of their top directors. (National Director) running major tournaments for the EBU around the country. He also ran the Overseas Congress for several years with his wife Marilyn. His relaxed style and friendly demeanor made him a very popular TD on the bridge circuit.
This Lifetime Membership award which we are presenting to him today is for David’s long and dedicated service to Coventry Bridge Club. He was involved on the committee for several years becoming president for many of these and helped guide the club in our new move to Coventry and North Warwickshire when it became impossible to continue in our old premises in Spon Street.
His support and patience with up-and-coming players in the club is admirable and I owe him a great debt for teaching me in my early years as a player. But last and not least for being such a gentleman and a role model of how to behave at the table. David has been a great asset to our club and we are proud to present him with this award.
