Welcome to Central Yarnton Bridge Club
David Bygott
David Bygott

David Bygott passed away peacefully at home on April 8th 2023.  He will be missed by many in the world of Bridge particularly in Oxfordshire

David was the co founder of our club.  He decided there was a place for another club in Oxfordshire and researched and found our lovely bright and airy hall.  Without David none of us would be able to enjoy our games of Bridge each week.

Sadly for the past couple of years, due to illness, David has been unable to come and join us at the club but he has always been keeping an eye on what is happening and we have kept him regularly informed.

We went out to see him just 13 days before he died and were able to report the sucess we had in getting the hall full again after Covid has done so much damage to Bridge clubs in the area.  This certainly put a big smile on his face.

Arthur gets the Crystal Bowl 2023

Every year we at CYBC award the Crystal Bowl to one of our members.  This year we decided to award it to Arthur Harold.

This year he has not only organised our first charity Bridge Drive, he has also made significant strides towards setting up a Junior Bridge Club in a local school.  We all wish him every success with this new venture.

CYBC's First Bridge Drive

Charity Bridge Drive March 18th 2023

We all enjoyed a fun day at our first charity Bridge Drive. We raised money for ROSY which is a small local charity that provides respite care for parents of sick children. A cheque for £700 was handed over to a representative from ROSY. The food was great, and we welcomed players in from clubs around Oxfordshire.

The only person who didn’t have such a good day was the director John Rowe as all the software crashed and he ended up having to input all the scores manually.

Congratulations to Nigel and his partner Gillian Lonsdale on their success at winning the Wessex League Daytime League, Division 1 for the third year running.

At CYBC, Nigel  advises on those tricky bidding problems and helps the people playing 12 boards with both their bidding and play.

Central Yarnton Bridge Club

Let's Play Bridge

Central Yarnton Bridge Club (CYBC), near Oxford, is a sociable Bridge Club that aims to facilitate relaxed and friendly bridge sessions for people of varying ability.  The Club welcomes new members and provides opportunity for improvers and the more experienced player who want to learn more about bridge. New members and visitors are welcomed.

The Club meets on Tuesday mornings in Yarnton Village Hall, The Paddocks, Yarnton, Oxfordshire, OX5 1TE  and online on Thursdays.   The Hall is fully accessible with car parking provided on site.

Coffee, tea and biscuits are available from 9.40am. We like to start play at 10am promptly, the sessions end at 12.00 - 12.15pm approximately.

We aim to play 18 boards of ‘Duplicate Bridge’ on a Tuesday morning but this is dependent on number of members attending.

Duplicate Bridge is facilitated on both Tuesday (Hall) and Thursday mornings (online).

Game Options

Game optionsJust Play: 18 Boards Duplicate

Dependent on number of members attending 8 to 12 tables of Duplicate Bridge is facilitated on Tuesday mornings. 20 boards of duplicate are played in our online game played on Real Bridge

Sitting Still Table

This group likes to play ‘Duplicate Bridge’ at its own pace, and to review the hands at the end of each board. Boards are computer dealt, and information on possible outcomes readily available for comparison!

The sitting still table group can also facilitate play for those returning to playing bridge or have sufficient grasp of the game to play but are not yet confident to play competitively. A great way for anyone looking to improve or to learn bridge in more depth.

Tuition table12 Board Duplicate.

For players wanting a gentler game or gaining confidence to move on to the more competitive 18 Board game.  Simply put your hand up and you will be assisted with your bidding or declarer play by an experienced player.

All the above are played in the hall alongside each other.

Tea and coffee

Annual membership: £10

Bridge Play:  £3 payable per session

Charge includes coffee, tea and biscuits.

The Club relies on members volunteering to set up the sessions and help with clearing up afterwards.

Learning Bridge

The Club is committed to enabling as many people as possible to learn and enjoy playing bridge.  However, due to numbers now attending the Club on a Tuesday morning we are unable to offer a programme for absolute beginners. There are a small number of local tutors who organise courses.  Several members of the Club have attended courses led by Francis Pike, in Cassington, and we would recommend them to anyone interesting in learning bridge in the Oxford area.
