WELCOME TO BURY ST EDMUNDS BRIDGE CLUB

Joan: partner broker

Formed in 1981 we are a friendly duplicate Bridge Club welcoming new and visiting players and meet every Thursday evening for F2F play.  Play starts at 7pm.

We have around 50 members and use a well-lit room.  We have tea, coffee, and drinks and biscuits available all evening.

We also currently play on Line on the BBO programme at 7pm on Wednesdays.

Our partner broker is Joan Watson and she can be contacted on j.watson120@btinternet.com

We join nationwide Simultaneous Pairs events on a few times a year.

Our address is Southgate Community Centre, Caie Walk, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 2PJ.  Tel no 01284 703705

There is another Bridge club in Bury - Abbeygate Club who play duplicate on Mondays (on line on the RealBridge programme) and Tuesdays F2F at Nowton Court.  Many of our members belong to both clubs.

BRIDGE WITH LUNCH

Wednesday 8 June at Elmswell at 1pm

a two-course meal followed by 24 boards

£14, including a glass of champagne

Full details and entry form on the Suffolk CBA website

KEEPING IN TOUCH WITH THE EBU

An article on the Suffolk website gives insight about information you can access on EBU (English Bridge Union) website.  From news to competitions and checking up on your masterpoints its your way to keep in touch with all that's going on.  All you need to access your own details is your EBU number and, oh yes, decide on a password!

FACE TO FACE AT SOUTHGATE IS UP AND RUNNING AGAIN

We have been back at Southgate Community Centre for F2F Bridge for several weeks now and it is good to see some 'old friends' back at the bridge table after an absence of over two years!

Next Thursday will be more of the same with a 7pm start and table money collection is being organised by Joan.  A monthly statement will be sent to each member and you will be able to pay on line into the Club's bank account.

We continue to play online, on the BBO programme, on Wednesday nights at 7pm.

We expect to hold our AGM and the Anne Nunn Trophy later in the year.

ONLINE BRIDGE AT BURY CONTINUES ON WEDNESDAYS

Although we have resumed F2F on Thursday nights, from 10 March 2022, we are still playing on Wednesday nights on BBO

Results are available and are regularly uploaded to the EBU website.  They are also shown at the top of the right hand column along with result from F2F on Thursdays.

As usual you can now click on your name and see the travellers results and the double-Dummy analysis.

Any feedback is always welcome, just email or phone Helen, Jo, Mike or Patsi with your comments.

SAD NEWS
SAD NEWS

David Price, a former captain of Suffolk and the finest player to represent the county, died on Monday 21 March at home after a short illness.  He was 72.  We were pleased to welcome him as a member of our Club a few years ago.  David is pictured here, with his wife Jenny and Anne Nunn, winning the inaugural playing of the Anne Nunn Trophy in 2018.

COMMITTEE MEETING REPORT

An Update June 11th, 2021

In future players will NOT be allowed to sign up to play with a robot in our Wednesday Online Bridge sessions.  Obviously if someone loses connection during the evening a robot will be substituted for them and a pair of robots will be used where we have a half table. We offer an (underused) Partner Broker service so if you are in need of a partner please contact Joan - contact details are on our website.

🏆 ANNE NUNN TROPHY 🏆

The event was last played in November 2020 and was jointly won by Jonathan Everett & Maria Reynolds from Abbeygate Club who have become regular supporters of the Bury Online sessions this year playing East/West and Bury Regulars Pamela Pope and Phil Mathews playing North/South.

We hope to have the next competition in the autumn of 2022.

REALBRIDGE

REALBRIDGE.

A link will be shown on our website, simply click on that and you will be able to join

Once on the home page you will need to fill in your name and EBU membership number in the ID box and then join a table, opposite your partner, if they are already there. If they are not there just click on an empty space. It’s as easy as that!

Three more points to take note of:-

  1. Use Chrome rather than Edge as your browser – RealBridge works much better on Chrome
  2. If you lose connection – Refresh or log back in again
  3. If necessary you can control the volume when playing by clicking on the mic symbol to the right of a person’s name.

If you need a partner please contact Joan 01284 787286 and she will send an email round to members.

HOW TO PLAY BRIDGE ONLINE

Never played bridge on-line - and intimidated by what's involved? DON'T BE!

An A-B-C guide to playing bridge at BridgeBaseOnline (BBO) which covers the most basic points - how to get started, how to join a game - has been created for Suffolk Bridge by Peter Bushby, and even includes some very fancy film clips.

The big advantage of playing on BBO is that you can partner a real person (for example, your regular partner) - rather than a robot - and it only costs $3.00 per game, of which 70% is returned to the relevant club later.

So with no prospect of any club bridge for at least three months and probably longer don't feel left out...just click on HOW TO PLAY BRIDGE ON LINE.

In addition to the basics, the comprehensive guide also shows how you can enter Suffolk's regular Sunday evening duplicate, how to play a match between two teams of four, and much more besides.

The EBU has also produced a guide on how to play on BBO. Click on EBU to see.
