Avoiding problems at the table
Tuesday 27th August, 6.00pm
The Buchanan has been the home of bridge in Glasgow since 1932.
The club is in a 19th century listed building and yet has all the benefits of technology with computer-dealt boards, Bridgemates on all tables, etc. Up to thirty-two tables in play can be accommodated over the three floors of the building.
The Buchanan Bridge Club is a fully licensed club with a bar.
The new Club Diaries will soon be rolling off the press but, in the meantime, some news about our September programme.
The competition for the Liz Smart Trophy will be held on Monday 23rd September. This is an “all play” event with all entry monies (£3 per player) going to St Margaret’s Hospice. Last year the donation totalled £300. With a “full house”, we can beat this total. Put it in your diary now!
The preceding weekend (21st/22nd September) our club will be open for Glasgow Doors Open Day. The Club’s participation in this event was started by Liz Smart and continues under the leadership of Christine Higgison. Volunteering as a Tour Guide is a great way to learn more about the history of our Club’s “Grade A Listed” building.
This year’s Maccabi Bowl is to be played on Wednesday 11th September. To avoid a clash, the Manning Foster Qualifying round will be played on Wednesday 18th September. To accommodate this, Teams of Four and Butler Pairs, moves to the 11th (second Wednesday) for September only. Teams of Four and Butler Pairs returns to the standard third Wednesday in the month for the rest of the year.
Finally, the Tuesday evening events for Class Members and Improvers, the Supported and Bronze Tournaments will continue in September and are now scheduled to run for the whole year.
