Friday mornings are growing in popularity as word spreads that there are worse ways to spend a morning than playing Bridge in a relaxed atmosphere, enjoying a social chat with friends old and new, and enjoying Tea and crumpets in a short break. Come along and see for yourself.

Could you teach Bridge?

You don’t have to be an expert to teach Beginners to play Bridge!
Possibly a back ground in teaching is more helpful! After all you didn’t need a degree in Astronomy to teach about the Solar System!

Help Shape the Future of Youth Bridge in Scotland
Help Shape the Future of Youth Bridge in Scotland

Over the past year, the Scottish Bridge Union (SBU) has made exciting strides in developing Youth Bridge across the country. As their initiatives grow, so does the need for a committed and collaborative team to help them deliver even more impact. They’re now recruiting volunteers to take on key roles within the Youth Bridge programme. If you're organised, enthusiastic, and eager to make a difference in young people's lives through bridge, please contact OpsCoordinator@sbu.org.uk

Barnet's Corner

Thursday 5th March Board 2

North plays  4S . After  the HK lead won and a heart ruffed how should North tackle the spades ?

When you're ready click on Show Answer

Play the King from hand. This nominally gains when either defender has a singleton 10 or Q in a 4-1 split and never loses. As even with a single A you have 3 losers. If the K loses to the Ace and no honour drops play the J next. This is better than a low card.

In the actual hand West can counter the play by shifting to the CA . East plays the C2 recognising partner wants a ruff. This is suit preference asking for the low suit. Now a diamond to the Ace and a club ruff . Another spade trick will put the contract down 2.

Click HERE choose the HK lead then click Next to see the correct play "in action"
The play of the spade suit by declarer is an example of thinking bridge. If you want to see many more examples and ideas join me on the 28th March at the club .
