Club Championship Pairs Competition [for the Callow Cup]
Club Championship Pairs Competition [for the Callow Cup]

For 2019/20, two separate competitions will be run - a Summer Championship Pairs competition and a Winter Championship Pairs competition.

A qualifying period covering nineteen events has been determined for each competition, indicated by Summer CPQ / Winter CPQ in the calendar.  Simultaneous Pairs events and other club competitions have been excluded.

In each competition, the minimum number of attendances required to qualify is eight.  Each pair’s eight best results will be used to calculate an average score.  The ten pairs with the highest average scores qualify for a single-event final in which the winning pair will be determined by adding their percentage score on the night to half the difference between their qualifying percentage score and the lowest qualifying percentage score.  In effect, this acts as a reverse handicap - good performance over the qualifying period is rewarded by a fast start in the final event.

The winner of the Callow Cup will be the pair with the highest handicap-adjusted percentage score in either the Summer or the Winter competition ... not the highest combined score.

For the 2019/20 competition, the qualifying periods are:

Summer Championship Pairs - 30 April 2019 to 17 September 2019, inclusive.

Winter Championship Pairs - 8 October 2019 to 7 April 2020, inclusive.
