Welcome to Broadstairs Bridge Club
The club is a member of the English Bridge Union. We play at the Portland Centre, St Peter's Church Hall, Hopeville Avenue, Broadstairs CT10 2TR on Wednesday evenings at 6:50pm, and on Monday afternoons at 1.50pm.
We aim for a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, playing about 22/24 boards and stopping for a tea/coffee break with biscuits, however the Monday session is half an hour shorter, so will be slightly less boards. Visitors are welcome but please telephone ahead (for further details please click on 'Information' then 'Where and When'). Facilities for the disabled are excellent.
Membership is currently open and if you would like to become a member please obtain a Membership Form from one of the Committee or download one from the website. Hopefully you will find any other details you are looking for on this web site. For a bit more information about the club click on 'information' then 'general'.

PARTNER FINDING |
We want to ensure that everyone who wants to get a game at Broadstairs can do so. The Message Board has always been available for anyone wishing to leave requests for partners and continues to be so. Also in the Members Area of the web site requests for partners can be placed against specific events in the calendar and this also continues.
If you require a Partner then please contact Rosemary English who will try to find you a partner.
If you know you will need a partner call and leave a message, or text Rosemary English on 07948185033, or email her on g-r.english@tiscali.co.uk. Please leave contact details, dates, and any preferences. Rosemary will be keeping a list for all partner requests for upcoming sessions, and notify you if a suitable partner is available.
Please try to register your partner requests at least 24 hours in advance, as on-the-day requests may be difficult to match.
If anybody does not regularly play a particular session, but is happy to consider occasional games with those seeking a partner at short notice, please register an interest.

JOHN COX RIP |
It is with great sadness that we must inform you that John Cox the founder of Broadstairs Bridge Club has passed away.
John played bridge in Thanet for many years. In 2008 the EBU started a new initiative whereby a bridge teacher could create a whole new club. This is what John did bringing a crowd of players, some of whom were brand new to bridge and some played socially, through the EBU Bridge for All course to the stage where the club was able to run regular duplicates, initially on Wednesday evenings and then also on Monday afternoons and at this point John handed over all the equipment he had bought boards, cards and a dealing machine to what now became a members’ club, Broadstairs Bridge Club.
You often see in tributes to club officials’ statements ‘that without ‘x’ this club would not exist but in the case of John and Broadstairs Bridge Club this is literally true. The club was created through John’s vision and his lessons and all the practical steps he took to make it a reality. The conversion to a members’ club was a real one. Although John remained on the Committee for many years he was not at all possessive of the club and was never happier than when his protégées were able to take over the running of the Club themselves. When John stood down from active involvement with the Committee he was unanimously elected as Honorary Life President of the Club in 2019.
John continued to play a full part in the life of the club, but it was during clearing away after an evening’s bridge that he fell and broke his pelvis. This combined with the advent of Covid meant that he was not able to return to the Club and spent his later years with his family and in a nursing home. He died peacefully last week. The funeral arrangements are as follows:
Broadstairs Bridge Club has donated £100 to Alzheimer's Research UK in memory of John.
