We are getting up to 8 tables on Weds and some players missing. We once used to get 15 or 16 tables but that's decades ago - do come along ( and bring a friend )..! The hall still has capacity for more.

Club competitions: Prior to the lockdown, we at Blackheath Bridge Club played for a variety of trophies throughout the year. At one time they were different formats, including rubber bridge on a Monday session, teams on a Thursday and a pairs with semi-final and final the following week also on a Thursday.

Before the lockdown, due to low attendance, these had virtually all become just regular duplicate sessions and it seems best not to re-instate them as we now only play competitively on Wednesdays.

However, two trophies we plan to restart. These are the Beeny and Foulger Cups ( for finishing second in the Beeny ). The Beeny was played every third Thursday of a calender month and we propose to make that every third Wednesday in future.

The aim is to play with the same partner at least a certain number of times throughout the year. This was once 9 times out of 12 but eventually became 7 times. Your final score would then be the average of your best 7 ( or however many we decide to be the minimum ). We will probably restart the competition in October so that the event finishes before our AGM ( traditionally at that time of year and also to be resumed ).

Hosting: We have re-instated our hosting system meaning that visitors can be sure of a game when they attend. Ivy will be asking members to offer to be host ( on a Wednesday afternoon ) from time to time. The only person who will ever not get a game will be the host who will get a free game subsequently should that happen. We would still be grateful if potential players call first and we will arrange a partner prior to the date. Contact Ivy Mcgeorge by email at i.mcgeorge3@ntlworld.com

Our duplicate session is every Wednesday, starting at 1pm for 1.15 (approx. 3 and a quarter hours ).

We're getting a good turnout on Wednesdays, up to 8 tables and hoping for more.

We also meet every Thursday, starting at 6pm for 6.15.

On Thursday evenings unfortunately we've been unable to get sufficient numbers to play duplicate but there has been a recent surge of interest from new members. Until there are enough members to play duplicate, members have simply enjoyed playing bridge face to face again with  other pleasant members. Please get in touch with Ivy Mcgeorge if you are interested in swelling the numbers.  I.mcgeorge3@ntlworld.com

We are based at Mycenae House. See Information for further details.

We held our AGM back in January. Among other things, we voted to remain affiliated to the English Bridge Union. We have also had a changing of the guard, with Rosemary Lloyd taking over as Treasurer. We wish Ron Andrews all the best and many thanks for his 30 years in the role.

The club is affiliated to the EBU and master points are awarded.

If you have no partner our Pairing Officer can usually find you someone.

On Wednesday afternoons there is disabled access and there is a ( slow but sure ) stair-lift which some players may need on Thursdays.

Most of us play simple systems (4 card or 5 card majors) though no systems are excluded.
