Corona Virus

Due to the Corona Virus there will be no Friday morning Bridge at St. Annes or Tuesday morning Bridge at the Boat Club until further notice. Bridge lessons (Tuesdays at St Annes) are also cancelled. Stay safe everyone!

Bridge Tournaments Online

Because of COVID, our Tuesday morning and Friday morning Duplicate Bridge groups have not been able to meet in their normal venues since March 2020.

We have started a new group for Belfast U3A members, to play duplicate bridge online. Our first weekly online tournament was held on Friday 12th February 2021 on the Bridgebase Website. Sixty members (15 tables took part). There will be a tournament every Friday, starting at 10.00am. The entrance fee is $1

If you want to join the Bridge Online Group, you need to be registered on the BBO website and have some Bridgebase Dollars on your account. You also need to send your BBO username to the convenor so that he can add you to the custom "include" list. Contact the convenor for further details

Bridge Practice Sessions May 2021

Bridge is the most popular card game in the world! It can be played at many levels... ranging from a social foursome, right up to local, national and international competitions. At whatever level you play, you are guaranteed to exercise your mind and meet a new network of friends!

My intention had been to start a new course of lessons for improvers in September 2020 in St. Annes Hall but because of COVID this was not possible. Keep checking this website and the belfast u3a groups website for updates on the next course of Bridge Lessons

In the meantime, I am providing practice sessions on the Real Bridge website for members of the recent Beginners and Revision Courses. This website takes online bridge to the next level, with built-in video and sound, bringing the true face-to-face experience online. See and speak to your opponents - just like face-to-face bridge.

The practice sessions take place on Tuesday mornings from 11.00am to approx. 12.45pm. There is follow up commentary and feedback on the hands played. You join the session by simply clicking on a link provided by the convenor. To contact the convenor just click on the pigeon icon.

There are currently two duplicate groups in the Belfast U3A. The first group plays in St Anne’s Parish Centre from 10.00am to 12.15pm on Fridays. This group is for those who have had some experience of playing and want to exercise those little grey cells and join in some lively and friendly competition in a welcoming atmosphere.

The second group plays in Belfast Boat Club from 10.30am to 12.30pm on Tuesdays. This group is aimed primarily towards less experienced players or returners to bridge after a gap.

More details about can be found  on this website in the Information Section of the main menu.  There are also links to the main U3A website and to the U3A monthly Newsletter in the  Useful Links section.

This group is for those who for those who have attended classes and want to gain experience by playing in a small friendly group. It may also suit those who have some past experience and who wish to return to the game. Bidding and Play may be discussed after playing the hands but without formal teaching. New members with some knowledge of bridge and who wish to practise their play in an informal setting are now welcome

This group meets on Fridays at 10am and Mondays at 2pm in the Convenor's home. More details can be found in the groups section of the Belfast U3A website
