Unit 146 Board Meeting Minutes June 28,2026
Present: Mike Fairbanks, Maureen Brines, Kerry Weil, Charles Heilig, Steve Rose, Debbie Line(by proxy) Absent: Herb Hurst, Janet Fuller(NC), Kathy Haglich, Linda White, Paul Howarth
Call to Order: 4:35 pm
Treasurer Report:
Balances: $15,612 in checking and $35,315 on our CD.
April Spring sectional: Revenue of $5288 with a net loss of $139. Food will continue to be offered as long a BCHR is able to provide this service.
Unit Game Rent: Unit game rent will now be paid quarterly using fewer checks.
Playing Space: Bridge Center of HR lease has been extended for 3 years with no rent increase.
President's Report:
End of Term: Maureen will be stepping down from President of our board at the end of the year. Kathy Haglich (VP) will be taking over the next two board meetings in September and December until elections. Debbie Line oversaw elections in 2025 and is suggested to do it for 2026.
Tournaments: Pete Haglich has taken over as the Tournament Coordinator for Tracy Brines.
D6 Regional VAB: Peter and Kathy have been chosen by D6 to chair the November 2026 D6 Regional in VAB. Barbara Duer will be Partnership Chair. D6 voted to increase entry fees from $18 to $20 per session starting in the November Regional.
Steve requested a meeting of all Regional Volunteers as soon as possible. Many volunteers chosen are unaware of what needs to be done.
New Directors: Maureen suggested 4 interested members be chosen to take the online ACBL director course which our unit would pay for with the board approved $500.
Education: Jennifer Douglas has 4 new students in her beginning bridge lessons at the center. Terri & Dennis have started bridge lessons for beginners. They have 12 students. Caroline Riegle continues to teach advanced beginners on Saturdays. Wrus and Tom continue to have lessons before their games.
Mentorship Program: Barbara Duer requested mentor program be added to our website. Our unit only pays for two games per month per mentee.
New Business: Howard Miller Memorial: Suggestions made for naming a regional game in honor of Howard and/ or placing an Obituary ad in Bridge Bulletin. Barbara agreed to write the article if given the information.
Recruitment: Mike suggested free drinks for first time visitors for our center. That was tabled to next meeting. Barbara Duer suggested a "newbies" game perhaps once a month with only 18 boards but still sanctioned. We will talk with Caroline Reigle to see if she is willing to take this idea on. Free games are still being offered to members who bring a new player to our center.
