Live Play Update

Associated Bridge Clubs of Drogheda

Re: Play re-commencement                   13-September-2020

Dear Members,

The ABCD Covid sub committee met on Friday evening and went through all the CBAI and HSE Guidelines and Protocols. It was agreed that the Centre is in full compliance with these requirements and they voted unanimously in favour of a limited return to ‘Live’ play commencing Tuesday 22nd September. Kathleen Healy has been nominated as ABCD’s Covid Officer.

            Some of the points that were clarified were as follows;

  • There would be a limit of 50 players including the TD allowed on any given session.
  • We will recommence play over a phased sequence initially run by ABCD
    1. Phase 1; we will play on two nights per week Tuesdays and Thursdays on a pre book basis.
    2. Phase 2; if numbers allow we will increase the number of nights and give priority to the clubs normally associated with that night.
    3. Phase 3; When clubs are confident that they have enough of their members playing the club can take over and run their club as normal.
    4. Phase 4 if numbers are increased by HSE we may return to ‘Normal’ Bridge.
  • All guide lines and recommendations will be followed.
  • With regards ventilation it was explained that there is no air-conditioning system in the centre, air conditioning systems are not preferred as they use recycled air. The Centre does have a Ventilation system which both brings fresh air into the building and also removes air to keep a circulation going. The ventilation system when turned on fully gives 6 air changes every hour in the room and therefore it has been agreed that the ventilation fans will be left turned on continuously during play.
  • Players can book their game by calling or texting Cathrina Bellew on 086 8462520, giving your name and what night Tuesday or Thursday you want to book. All players will be given fair opportunity on bookings.
  • A self-declaration form must be complete by each player on their first night of play. There is a link to this form on the left side column of the web site, if you can print and complete this form prior to coming this would help, forms will also be available on the night.

Some DO’s and DON’Ts

  • Players don’t attend if they feel unwell, or fall into travel or quarantine restrictions.
  • Please don’t congregate in groups either inside or outside the building.
  • During play don’t move to next table until the TD instructs you to do so.
Do bring personal sanitizer for use between rounds
  • Do bring correct Table money €6 to avoid requiring change, also bring your own pen, but minimise personal belongings
  • Do wear a mask or visor, light weight visors will be available to purchase on the night at €5 each.
  • Do please be seated and ready to play at no later than 07:25 for a 7:30 start.

NOTE: The bridge Centre will be open from 3:00 to 4:00 next Sunday 20th if you would like to see the changes in place. Photos below.

Yours Sincerely

Return to Live Bridge

Associated Bridge Clubs of Drogheda

Re: Play re-commencement

Dear Members,

As some clubs have agreed with the ABCD request that they run open nights on their games nights once ABCD had received clearance from the HSE and the CBAI with regards re-commencement.

I am happy to say that the HSE have now given clearance for the re-commencement of ‘live bridge’ under the Cultural, Social and Sport measures, once the bridge club conforms to its recommendations and protocols along with the CABI risk assessment. Both of these documents can be viewed on the Covid Awareness button in the left hand panel of the home page.

The ABCD Bridge Centre is now in full compliance with all these requirements, including but not limited to, Table screens, Hand sanitizers, personal distancing, restrictions on play and movement etc. There will also be an initial limit of 50 players. On the night normally reserved by a specific club, those members will have first option on these 50 places, if the full allocation is not taken up by the club the vacant positions can be filled by friends. It may take a couple of weeks for the numbers to balance out but there will be a Booking Calendar in the Centre where members can put their names down in advance for the coming weeks.

We are fully aware that not all members due to personal circumstances and risk category would be comfortable with a return at this stage and we appreciate all the efforts made by Peter Byrne and Martin O’Brien to make it easier for members to play on line and these ‘Virtual Clubs’ will remain where possible.

For those comfortable with a return to the Bridge Centre, and while we have done everything possible with regards playing conditions there are obviously some requirements and onus on the players returning’

  • Players do not attend if they feel unwell, or fall into travel or quarantine restrictions.
  • You are required to bring personal sanitizer for use between rounds
  • Please bring correct Table money €6 to avoid requiring change
  • Bring your own pen, but minimise personal belongings
  • You will be issued with your own bidding box which you take home and bring back on card nights.
  • Masks or visors are required, light weight visors will be available to purchase on the night at €5 each.

Our will contact all the clubs with an aim to be back playing before the end of September, date will be confirmed next week.

Note: All table money will go directly to ABCD to cover mortgage costs until the Bridge Clubs formally reform, hopefully early in the new year.

Yours Sincerely
