The AGM took place on the 27th April at 6.30pm.
The Chairman reported as follows:
Good evening ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to our AGM.
Thank you all for your support last year. I am pleased to report that we increased our membership by 6, but lost one member who has moved from the area. Mary had been a member for a number of years, was serving on the committee when she moved, and I have written to thank her.
The committee, with the exception of Marion, is willing to stand for re-election. Marion has served on the committee for a number of years as chairman and a member, thank you Marion for your support.
We are averaging 8 tables per night and, as our treasurer will announce, financially healthy. The annual membership fee will remain at £10 and the table money £2.50. The club will continue to subsidise sim pairs and will contribute to the Christmas Dinner which will remain at £5.
Since its inception 40 years ago, the optimum play for the club has been a simple movement with 3 boards per round and maximum of 24 boards played. A prompt 7.15pm arrival for a 7.30pm start enables time for a 10 minute break and a finish of 1030pm.
During the past year, as a result of a decision made at the AGM, the Directors have used a Howell movement. In general, there have been 2 boards per round, players have moved from one end of the room to the other, play has been slower, a lot of hanging around, and late finishes.
There are Mitchell type movements available to cater for playing 24 boards with 8½, 9, 9½ tables. I used to play at Oxford on a Tuesday evening where a Mitchell movement was always used. If the Mitchell movement or arrow switching were deemed unfair, I am positive that the Oxford Bridge Club or OBA would not have sanctioned or played this system.
The Minutes of the meeting are as follows:
Minutes of the Witney Bridge Club Annual General Meeting
Held on Wednesday 27th April 2016 7.45pm
Present: 20
Apologies: Geoff Cropper
Minutes of the last AGM 11th March 2015 were circulated. Having asked any questions, they were passed.
Chairman’s report
The chairman thanked everyone who had helped him during the year.
He also said he had written to Mary Jones who has left the club for her time she served on the committee. He also thanked Marion Hebblethwaite who is also leaving the committee.
He brought up about the Howell movement we have been using which has been making very late night finishes. He thought the directors should choose the most suitable movement for the evening. This was put to a vote and passed.
Current financial position for 2015/16 was very healthy and the membership and table money would remain the same £10 and £2.50
Election of Officers and Committee
The chairman said that everyone (except Marion) was willing to stand so this was voted en bloc.
AOB
Christmas party would be on Dec.14th 2016
It was put the meeting for a volunteer to do the partner contact job which Marion did and Rita Finch volunteered.
Meeting closed 7.10 pm.
