BBO is a free site very popular and excellent value. Often you will find over 10 000 bridge enthusiasts logged on. If you want to drop inand play bridge for free you will find it an uncaring environment: some think nothing of dropping out in the middle of a hand and strong NT/ 5 card major systems are pretty well universal. On the other hand if four arrange to meet up there and form their own table they can have a private rubber in the Relaxed Lounge or play with their choice of MP or imp scoring in the Main Bridge Club.
Apart from the playing there are two very good reasons tohave BBO available on your computer-
- Many top events can be viewed live with expert commentary
- There is a free sample of the Bridge Master software which sets you declarer puzzles and only the very best line will allow your contract to succeed. Everyone will find something to improve their bridge working through these thirty problems. |

Bridgeclublive is a British site affiliated to the EBU.Membership for EBU members is £69 (+VAT) a year. It is a well run friendly site with regular completions organised as well as the ability to drop in as you please. What you pay for is the ethics system people are not allowed to be rude or to drop out in the middle of a hand so you can concentrate on playing bridge. They have a useful grading system so after each session you can assess how well you did considering both you score and the quality of the opposition. If you have a registered partnership there are leagues to enter and the pairs championship is a big knock out competition starts in September with the final in the new year.Some play mostly with arranged partners while some drop in as and when they like and find someone with whom to play. It’s good value if you to play there once a week or more. Several of our members can be found playing on this site.
Up to the beginning of August you could have had a month's free trial as 'guest member' now though the company have a new site bridge4free where you can use the excellent software for ever and for nothing. Like bbo its fine if four go in at an agreed time and play together but a bit random if you are picking up ops or partner from the other people there. It means bridgeclublive is now completely free of random people wandering in who might be rude and/or know next to nothing about bridge. Its still possible to try out bridgeclublive as a guest if you are introduced by an existing member. Its just possible that I, or one of the others, might be persuaded to do this for you.
