In 1944 George Rapee of New York, one of the world's greatest players, had an important thought concerning responses to No-Trump, an area that had given the experts much trouble and given rise to various experiments. He proposed the use of a 2♣  response as an artificial request for a Major suit. His partner, Sam Stayman, liked the idea, and other experts quickly adopted it. In June 1945, with the war in Europe over and the Pacific war drawing to a close, The Bridge World magazine, published "A New No-Trump Convention" by Samuel M. Stayman. The idea should no doubt have been christened "Rapee", or perhaps Rapee-Stayman, but the tournament world chose to call it by the name of the propagator rather than the originator.

November 6 (Sunday) sees Balbriggan Bridge Club hosting their annual Tom Sheridan Trophy event at the City North .As one of the main founders of the Club and the fact that this year we are celebrating 40 years  it is hoped that as usual club members will further support this event .Flyers are displayed in the Club House.

Congratulations go to Helena Browner  & Veronica Buttimer who Won the Glynis Kay Pepetulal Cup  as   the Inter  " B Winners at the 2016 Drogheda Congress this weekend ( October 7-9).

The first Regional Event  of the new season (Pat Taaffe Trophy) took place at the Gate Club ,Drogheda on Sunday 11 September .Congratulations go to Caroline Howard & Carol Sheridan who where the "Intermediate " Winners. 

Following their Inter "A " Regional Win  earlier in the year, congratualtions go to : John Knox,Ray Ryan,Maeve Carroll and Vivienne Donnelly in being selected to go  forward  later this year  to represent  the Leinster " A " team in the Inter-Provicials in Athlone .

Following the recent Charity Bridge Event organised by the "Skerries Bridge Clubs, a presentation was made to the local RNLI  on behalf of John Keane .Presentation was performed by Johns wife Bernadette.Keane The Organisers wish to thank all participants for their support.

Over the weekend August 6th/7th at the City North Hotel the Annual Teams event took place between the CBAI and the NIBU. The event involved 6 teams  of Inter B, Inter A and Masters  who have won their respective National Team Finals and Open Team, Ladies Team and Officials Team. The CBAI  were successful in this event taking the Trophy. Congratulations to Seamus Costello and Peter Howard  who were on the Officials Team.

The Dublin Summer Bridge Congress took place over the weekend Friday 29 -Sunday 31July at City West.. Club Members participated over the few days in various categories.

Congratulations go to : Gillian Berwick & Phyllis Carew  as Runners up in the Novice Pairs. The Inter "B " Teams event was Won by : Carol Sheridan ,Phyllis Carew ,Vincent Bissett  and Malcolm Goldsworthy..

The Club received to day confirmation that following an application  to the Community ,Culture and Sports Division of Fingal County Council we have been approved for Funding up to € 2000.00 for Equipment.The agreed equipment will be for a Dealing Machine ( Already purchased 2nd hand through the CBAI).plus a printer .

The Club wishes to thank Fingal County Council for approving our application.....

Shambo Trophy and Stan Fitzpatrick Cup  - Thursday night competitions open to all Novice and Inter B grades.

All these competitions are two sessions events and players must be available to play with the same partner on both nights to compete
