Beat Your Neighbour
Beat your neighbour - 2 Players

A=4 K=3 Q=2 J=1

Many of us remember this game from childhood, maybe playing with grandparents. It is one of the easiest card games to learn and amazingly lays a little of the foundation to bridge by introducing the values of Ace = 4, King = 3, Queen = 2 and Jack = 1

Divide a pack of cards into two, roughly equal halves; it doesn’t matter if they are not exactly the same.

Each player holds their half of the cards face down. The players take it in turn to play a card, face up onto the table, making a new pile of cards

If a player puts down a Jack the other player has to put down one card onto the pile. The first player collects all the cards up, adding them to the bottom of his own cards.

If a player puts down a Queen the other player has to put down 2 cards onto the pile. The first player collects all the cards up, adding them to the bottom of his own cards.

If a player puts down a King, the other player has to put down 3 cards onto the pile. The first player collects all the cards up, adding them to the bottom of his own cards.

If a player puts down an Ace, the other player has to put down 4 cards. The first player collects all the cards up, adding them to the bottom of his own cards.

Sometimes while putting down extra cards an Ace, King, Queen or Jack is turned up. If this happens play stops and the other player then has to put down extra cards.

The first player to runs out of cards loses. Beat your Neighbour can also be extended to play with 3 or 4 players
