This game reinforces understanding of number values and also introduces the concept of probability. For example if a 2 is turned up it is more probable that the next card will be of a higher, rather than lower value.

 Shuffle an ordinary pack and then place 5 cards, face down, on the table in a row, horizontally. Then turn the first card face up.

Ask the children to guess whether the next card will be higher or lower than the first one. If they are wrong the cards are reshuffled and dealt and the next player has a turn. If they are right, they then make a prediction for the next card. Should cards be of equal value that is acceptable. It is also a good discussion point for children when an Ace is turned up, and a decision can be agreed as to whether it is low or high. When a player correctly guesses all the cards in a row, they win the game.
