Bulletin

The Friday evening duplicate is cancelled on 13 December but will be held at the club in the Main Hall as usual on the day before—on Thursday 12 December.

Please allow extra time travelling to or from the club from the Richmond direction if using public transport at the weekend, 5 & 6 September. There is no service on the District line between Turnham Green and Richmond at the weekend.

There’s still time to give yourself a chance of a £500 prize by signing up and playing in our Half Marathon on Saturday 27 July—details in the poster.

due to some very last‑minute dropouts which make the session unviable on this occasion.

Come along on Wednesday 21 August for a lighthearted evening duplicate with complimentary nibbles and no NGS. Everyone is welcome. Nibbles from 7.00pm; duplicate starts at 7.30pm.

Unfortuanetely, we have cancelled the Wednesday duplicate, scheduled this week for 21 August. due to too few registrations.

It is not too late to enter the Mixed Pairs this coming Sunday 19 May. And we are delighted to say that the leading pairs in this event will be eligible to win one of four fantastic prizes being offered by the organisers of the International Deauville Bridge Festival in July.

Any last‑minute entries to the 2024 YCKO accepted until Wednesday 31 January.

The club is closed as usual over Easter, so there are no Friday morning and no Friday evening duplicates on 29 March.

The regular Super Wednesday Duplicate is suspended on 20 March this week due to too few registrations.

New Friday morning games start this week.

The Friday evening duplicate this week on 14 March is upstairs in the Warwick Room.

The second scheduled date for our Tuesday evening monthly matchpointed duplicate (upstairs in the Warwick Room) is this week on 25 February.

The YC Championship Pairs for the Franklin To trophy takes place at the end of this week on Sunday 2 February starting at 11.30am.

The first scheduled date for our Spring 2025 Super League matches is 22 JanuaryWednesday this week.

Members are welcome to attend the club AGM to be held this year just before the regular duplicate on Friday 20 October.

From Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 October, there will be no District line service between Earl’s Court and Ealing Broadway/Kensington (Olympia)/Richmond. This means Ravenscourt Park, the closest station to the club, will not be in use. Hammersmith, a ten‑minute walk or short bus ride away, is the closest station served by other lines.

Release 2.19r
YCKO 2021 Announcement
YCKO 2021 Announcement

Update: 18 November 2020

Since the opportunity for face‑to‑face play has remained out of reach for longer than hoped, the club has reluctantly discontinued this year’s event. An online (at least initially) version of the event for 2021 will start soon.

Update: 25 March 2020

Event suspended until the club re‑opens for face‑to‑face play.

The Young Chelsea Knockout (YCKO) is the club’s annual teams event that runs on "double elimination" lines. Other than in the semifinal and final a team has to lose two matches before it is knocked out. The undefeated team gets a bye through the round before the semifinal stage, and has the option of extending one of the semifinal or final by eight deals should it be behind at the normal end of the match. Only YC members may take part in this competition. The play‑by date for Round One is 23 December 2019. The winning team will receive a prize of £800 and will hopefully be eligible for a play‑off match against the team winning the 2020 London Championship Teams‑of‑four to decide which team will represent London in the 2021 Lederer invitation tournament. All matches are played at the YC. Matches in the early rounds are of 24 deals, and are priced (inclusive of half‑time refreshments} at £12.50 per person.

Although default playon dates were originally specified, so far almost noone has actually played on these dates, so the club has abandoned this idea. But the playby dates for completion of each round are certainly not being abandoned and the club will be aiming for them to be strictly observed. The dates have been revised and are now as shown:

  • Round Two
29 February 24 deals
  • Round Three
18 April 24 deals
  • Round Four
6 June 24 deals
  • Round Five
25 July 24 deals
  • Quarter‑final
12 September 24 deals
  • Semifinal
31 October 32 deals
  • Final
19 December 48 deals

These dates allow seven weeks for each round, which should be plenty if you make an effort to arrange your fixtures in good time. As soon as you know who you will be playing, each captain should offer at least four weekday dates before the play‑by date to the opposing captain. Teams that have not agreed a date by the play‑by date may apply to the club for an extension, but should be aware that the result may, if necessary, be awarded to one of the teams or be decided on the toss of a coin.

At the semifinal stage there will be one undefeated team (which is not required to play a quarter‑final match). This team may choose its opponents from the three remaining once‑defeated teams. They also have the option—at the end of either the semifinal or final—of adding one extra set of eight deals to be played.

All matches must be played at the club unless special dispensation has been given by the Management Committee. Once a date has been agreed, the match should be booked into the club by email. Send your booking, and also your match results, to the club with a copy to the organiser, Chris Duckworth, please.
