After extensive dialogue with several interested players representing all cohorts within our Club a new competitions structure has been created that we envisage will provide interest and fun for players. We believe it will give players of all levels and abilities the opportunity to compete for a trophy. To this end, most of the competitions will run twice per year to increase the opportunities to win. Additionally, handicapping has been introduced across many of the new cumulative-type competitions to compliment the long-standing single-event solstice and equinox handicaps. The stand-alone handicap events will be increased from the current 4 per year to 6 per year. Details of all competitions will be viewable on our Club website shortly – under the tab “Competitions 2025”
In the meantime, here are the new cumulative-type competitions:
Monday Night 6 High Leaderboard Running within the Monday night Improvers over six months – twice per year. It will be a cumulative average of all session scores with an individual winner. Only players with an NGS grade of 6 or below on 1st January and 1st July will be eligible to win and must have played a minimum of 13 sessions. A list of players who are eligible by NGS grade will be placed on the club noticeboard.
Slammer Leaderboard Running twice per year for six months each across all afternoon sessions plus Tuesday and Friday evenings with an individual winner. It will be a cumulative score of total slams bid and made, divided by number of sessions played. Grand slams will be awarded 3 points and small slams 1 point. Players will need to have played a minimum of 10 sessions to be eligible to win.
Handicap and Scratch Teams competition
Teams will compete in an internal league with separate scratch and handicap results. Trophies will be awarded to the top teams in the handicap and scratch league table. Handicaps will be based on NGS grade. The competition will be played in a series of rounds of 24-board matches, played at the club. Fixtures for each round will be arranged between team captains at a mutually convenient time. The number of fixtures will depend on the number of teams entering."
Tuesday Evening X IMPs Leaderboard This competition will run twice per year for six months each within Tuesday X IMPS sessions. There will be handicapped and scratch tables, which will be a cumulative average of all session scores. Players will need to play a minimum of 7 sessions to be eligible.
Tuesday Evening MP Leaderboard This will run as per Tuesday Evening XIMPs Leaderboard
Variety Is the Spice Of Life This is a multi-partner competition and will run twice per year for 6 months each across all afternoon and Tuesday and Friday Evening sessions. It will be a cumulative average of all session scores. To be eligible to win, players will need to play at least 5 different partners three times each. All the new competitions will be reviewed after they have run for one period. All feedback is welcomed and encouraged. Please send any thoughts or suggestions to competitions@theyorkbridgeclub.co.uk
