HANDICAP SYSTEM FOR Pairs Competitions and Friday Night Handicap Sessions

Handicaps are updated each week on a Monday and any changes to your NGS that have occurred over the week will be reflected in your handicap after it's updated

Player handicaps are stratified and each player is awarded a +/-% handicap according to
their NGS grade, with a maximum positive handicap of +6% and a maximum negative
handicap of -6%. An NGS 8 being the average and receiving a neutral 0% handicap, an
NGS Ace receiving the maximum -6% and an NGS 2 receiving the maximum +6%.
The handicap brackets are:
NGS grade handicap
Ace -6%
King -5%
Queen 4%
Jack -3%
10 -2%
9 -1%
8 0%
7 +1%
6 +2%
5 +3%
4 +4%
3 +5%
2 +6%
A playing pair made up of a player with a handicap of +4% and a player with a handicap of
+2%, will together be awarded a handicap of +6% to their final score. If they score 46%, their
handicapped result will be 52%.
Any players who do not have an NGS grade, or who have not made their NGS grade
publicly visible, will receive the maximum negative handicap. Any player who does not have
an NGS grade because they are a new player, or for other reasons beyond their control
should contact competitions@theyorkbridgeclub.com to discuss their handicap if they wish to
enter a handicap competition.
