Obituary Mark Harrison
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mark Harrison, who passed peacefully in his sleep on 21st February at the age of 91.
Oxford-educated, Mark led a varied and distinguished career, from starting up his own delicatessen in Oxford to overseeing the establishment and opening of the National Theatre on the South Bank - a remarkable achievement.
It was at the bridge table, however, where many of us knew him best. A charming and unfailingly courteous gentleman, he was also a highly competitive and accomplished player with a deep respect for correct play. He was generous with his knowledge and encouragement. Only days before his death he was explaining the finer points of the Gambling Three No Trump; to his great amusement, it was promptly tried at the table - with memorable consequences!
He was greatly loved by all and will be sorely missed.
