WOOLPIT FRIENDLY BRIDGE GROUP
CONSTITUTION
- Name
The name of the Group is WOOLPIT FRIENDLY BRIDGE GROUP.
2 Objects
The Group is established to provide facilities for the playing and enjoyment of the game of Bridge, in Woolpit.
3 Membership
a) Any person may be admitted to membership subject to the agreement of the Committee.
b) New applicants may be asked to play at least one evening at a table where a committee member is present before membership is confirmed.
c) Each member shall pay the agreed subscription in each ‘Playing year’ i.e. September to August.
d) A member shall cease to be a member if:-
- such members subscription is not paid by the end of the ‘Playing Year’ or
- the Committee feels that their membership is prejudicial to the objects and principles of the group.
e) Any individual may attend on up to four occasions before deciding to join. A charge per session will be made.
f) If a paid-up Member of WFBG wishes to be partnered by their husband/wife or domiciled partner then the intended partner will automatically be granted the next available vacancy.
g) If a paid-up Member loses their playing partner they can, with the agreement of the Committee, invite a new permanent partner to join.,
- General meeting
- An Annual General Meeting shall be held in September each year.
A Special General Meeting may be called by the committee at any time and shall be called by them receiving a request in writing signed by not less than 6 members stating the reason for the request.
b) At least 21 clear days notice of a General Meeting shall be given to members, in writing. Accidental omission to give or non-receipt of such notice shall not invalidate the proceedings of the meeting.
- The business of the Annual General Meeting shall be as follows:-
- To receive and consider the Annual Report of the Committee.
- To receive and consider the Annual Accounts.
- To elect officers (and Members of the Committee)
- To transact any other business of which notice has been given to the Secretary ten days before the meeting.
5 Committee
a) The committee shall consist of Chairman, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer, Play Director and two other members of the group.
- A new committee shall be elected at each Annual General Meeting but retiring members of the committee shall be eligible for re-election.
- Each member of the Group may nominate other members to the Committee; all such nominated people must have signified their willingness to act.
6 Quorum
a) The quorum at any General Meeting shall be 6 members.
b) The Chairman or in his absence the Secretary or in his absence the Treasurer shall preside. If none of such officers shall be present the Meeting may elect its own Chairman.
c) The Chairman shall have a casting vote.
7 Finance
a) Proper books of accounts shall be kept by the Honorary Treasurer under the supervision of the Committee.
b) The accounts shall be audited by one or more persons who are not members of the Committee.
- All sums collected shall be handed over to the Treasurer.
- Cheques shall be signed by two members of the Committee.
8 Dissolution
The Group may be dissolved by a resolution passed by a majority of not less than two-thirds of the members who are present and vote at a Special Meeting convened for that purpose.
In the event of the dissolution of the Group any property or cash remaining after the satisfaction of all debts and liabilities shall not be distributed among the members but shall be given or transferred to WOOLPIT INSTITUTE.
9 Other matters
Matters not specifically provided for in these rules shall be decided by the Committee.
10 Alterations to the Constitution
This Constitution may be amended, repealed or replaced by resolution at a general meeting of the Group, provided that any resolution concerning this Constitution must receive a majority of at least two-thirds of the members present and entitled to vote.
- for such a motion (which shall give full details of proposed changes) shall be conveyed to members by the committee by means of posting it on the club notice board no later than 21 days before the meeting. Members may request an individual copy of the motion.
