MATTERS ARISING.
There were no matters arising.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
Previously circulated
The Treasurer reported a net profit for the last 12 months of £366.98. The club donated £400 to charities during the year. There were no items of capital expenditure . Tables numbers were down on pre covid numbers and Thursday evenings are run at a small loss; however income from the Monday online drive more than makes up the difference. The Club has a good balance in the bank.
A question was asked about the cost of replacing Bridgemates and if the club would be looking at alternative systems? Phil replied that we have a sinking fund of £2200 towards a current replacement cost of £2600. Alternatives would be considered when the time came; which was not thought to be in the immediate future.
The Committee proposes leaving the subscriptions at £5; and the table fee at £2 for members and £3 for guests. To take affect from 1 July 2023
The Treasurer’s report and proposals were agreed. Proposed by R Furlonger, seconded by D Cobley.
TEAM CAPTAINS’ REPORT
Previously circulated.
Woodborough 1.The season started in promising fashion with an emphatic win by 18 VP to 2VP against West Bridgford. In our next match we secured a narrow victory against Sunday Tigers.
Unfortunately this was to be our last success. We went on to lose the remaining 8 matches.
We finished up with an average of 7.4 VP and in fifth place out of six teams in Division 1.So it would seem that we will be playing in Division 2 next year.
Whilst this is somewhat disappointing for the club and the players involved we must bear in mind that we were usually up against teams containing more highly ranked players. We put in some very sound performances and in only one of the matches did we suffer a heavy loss.
Some 13 players represented the first team throughout the season. I am grateful to all of the players involved, who made my job easier by responding quickly to emails advising me of availability. We had no problems with BBO. The online format did give some players a chance to represent the club who would not have been playing otherwise. Looking to next season just 3 players said that they would prefer to play f2f rather than continuing with BBO so we wait to see what the County decides will be the format.
Paul Morris.
Woodborough 2 played 10 matches winning 4 and losing 6. This left us in 5th position in the table. However, we were only 8 points behind 3rd place and less than 20pts behind 2nd.
In all some 17 players represented the club, some of whom had not played teams before and we hope benefitted from the experience. Huw and Roy would like to thank everybody who played, we hope you enjoyed it and would be happy to play again.
Communication with team members was generally good with people responding to our messages and logging into BBO in plenty of time. Only once did we need a last moment replacement and a big thank you to Dave Hannigan for stepping in with zero notice!
Roy, with lots of help from his wife Carol, managed setting up and running the matches after a slightly shaky start. Communicating with the other team captains was usually good and most people were helpful.
Roy Sells and Huw Cadwallader
CHAIRMAN’S REPORT:
Keith reported that table numbers were down, and this was similar to falling numbers across the country. We currently have 52 members which includes several new to the club. However some no longer attend due to various reasons. It was hoped to start some beginner classes in the autumn if there were volunteers to help.
Jan Turton was thanked for providing the refreshments, and agreeing to continue that role.
D Treharne offered to help with classes. B Jay asked if there could be improver lessons and Keith replied that the County was considering running improving classes on a once a month basis.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS AND COMMITTEE
It was disappointing that no one had come forward to join the committee. Therefore it would continue as it presently stands. K Spencer (Chairman), Jane Hall (Club Secretary), Phil Dale (Treasurer), G Lindley (Committee Secretary), R Page and S Fordham were elected en bloc.
There were no questions concerning the reports, or any other business.
MEETING CLOSED AT 7.10 PM.
