WBC AGM Report

2026 AGM for Wodonga Bridge Club

The Wodonga Bridge Club Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on April 14th with a very pleasing number of members attending this vital part of our club's administration.

The formalities were quickly dealt with including the presentation of the minutes of the presentation of the 2025 AGM minutes, the President’s Report (click here ) and the Treasurer’s Report (click here).

The Election of Office Bearers was run by Don Coysh and the results were as follows:

President: Mary Prowse

Vice President: Martin Akers

Secretary: Wendy Stanford

Treasurer: Jane Rooney

Committee Members: Nicola Burr, Christine Luckman, Jim Bates and Alan Blackman

General business saw the Proposal for Life Member Category added to constitution

Those attending the AGM then enjoyed a dinner of Chicken & salads, tea/coffee etc.
Following the AGM and refreshments, a bridge session was organized for members to enjoy.

Play & Learn Day

Saturday 9th May 2026 Learn and Play Day

At the Learn n Play session on Saturday, 9 May, at the Wodonga Senior Citizens’ Clubrooms, Jan Hackett presented a lesson on Declarer Play in a Suit.

The key to declarer play is to PLAN.
When dummy goes down, PAUSE and assess the hand. Consider where the missing cards may be and remind yourself of the contract.
Then LOOK at how many trumps the opponents are likely to hold and count your losers in each suit.
ANALYSE how those losers can be reduced, for example by ruffing.

Only then should you play to the first trick, because you will have a plan for the hand as a whole.

Jan’s notes and quiz were followed by practice play. Everyone enjoyed the lesson and its challenges, along with the delicious food served throughout the day. Those who won the mystery door prizes were especially pleased. The afternoon concluded with a full bridge session that was thoroughly enjoyed by all. See pictures below.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Jan Hackett for so generously visiting the Wodonga Bridge Club to deliver the lesson, provide notes and references, and answer our questions. Thanks also to our club members for their cooking and furniture-moving efforts, to Martin for dealing the boards, to Mary and Tony for hosting our guest lecturers, and to the bridge players from several clubs who attended to build their skills.
