Welcome to Bridge with the Brewers
Important Information

This is mainly a website run by Richard and Jurdy Brewer where we give information of any online bridge sessions we are running, the results, and details of any online teaching/coaching session

Online Bridge

RealBridge is the new site for clubs to run online bridge.  We (Richard and Jurdy Brewer) have now completed all the training (much of it at 2am in the morning in Malaysia as the service is run from Europe), taken part in practice sessions, competed in a couple of real events, registered an account with the service and been trained in running online bridge sessions.

How does it differ?  Well, on RealBridge you play against other members of your club, or those that the Director has invited from other clubs, and only at times that have been arranged. There is no drop in/drop out as on some other sites. At the moment you cannot kibbitz unless RealBridge are hosting a tournament.

There is a live director onsite at all times to run the event and ensure an enjoyable session and who you can call on in case of a problem or dispute.  Press the “director” button and the Director will appear at your table. You talk to your opponents and answer questions just like you do when playing face to face.  In this way it feels more like a real bridge club

You might find it useful to take a quick look at the Player Guide at this link  in advance.  The site runs on computers and tablets and we’ve used both.  You cannot play from a phone.

On the day you intend to play click on the link we have sent you in an email. You won’t be able to get into the session before the director opens the site.

A relatively good internet connection is recommended otherwise you may have problems. A few people do get disconnected so it is a good idea for all players to click on the refresh button (the two circling arrows) to the right of your name when at the table as it will help to keep you logged in.

Enter your name.  The ID is not required.  You can then click on Login and enter the lobby.  We suggest you stay in the lobby until your partner arrives and then both go to a table together.   That avoids interlopers sitting in your partner’s seat if they haven’t arrived. In case of problems, just click on Leave and go to another table.

Once at the table you can play with the cog wheel on the right hand side and choose the display options you want for the first round.  You can change them again so you can experiment with the cards for the next hand falling from the heavens, zooming in from the side, fading in and out etc.   All the preset choices will be fine to start with for computer users.  If you are playing from an iPad/tablet we suggest you use the simplified cards (they’re bigger) and the two tap mode (saves fat fingers clicking on the wrong bid/card).

Until the first round has been completed late comers can still join in.  After that it won’t be possible so do login early in case you have connection issues.

The Director can talk to everyone in the club and will make announcements if needed.  You will see the Director's face appear in the middle of the table when that happens.  You can also call the Director if you need to. If you are playing in the same house as another player you get an awful lot of very disturbing whistling feedback.   You are encouraged to turn off the microphone and audio on one of your computers/tablets to avoid this.  Then just use the microphone on one machine to talk to the table/director.

You get moved automatically at the end of each round by the director but only if the table you’re due to go to has finished playing.  You may find yourself “parked” at an empty table if your opponents are not yet ready to join you.  Don’t worry - they’ll appear. Just like when playing for real, slow play can hold everyone up.  You are encouraged to claim if possible.

The results get displayed in the box in the middle of the table (the playing area) so you can check on your progress as you go along and also see what everyone else played a board in.  On this site everyone plays the same board at the same time.  No waiting for others to play it to get a result and no more 50%s on your first board. You can review boards at any time when you’ve finished your round/boards by clicking on the board number or your name in the results table. Once you get used to it, you can click on a result and see how the board was bid and then see the hand being played out one card at a time. If you inadvertently lose or can’t see the scores on the playing area, just click on Scores bottom left.

Results will be displayed on this page.

Have fun!
