In Memoriam 2025
Rosemary Morrice

It is with great sadness that I report the death of ROSEMARY MORRICE who passed away peacefully at Epsom Hospital on 4th November 2025, aged 92, after a short illness. Rosemary played at WBC for many years, with me and others, until the Covid epidemic.  She certainly enjoyed her Bridge sessions and was a pleasure to play with.  She was a regular at Tuesday and Friday morning sessions, as well as the Wednesday lunchtime games.  She continued playing Bridge on-line until very recently!  I was informed by Rosemary’s daughter Anne Cossins.  Please join me in sending our condolences to Rosemary’s family.

Nigel Bradley

We are very sorry to report the sad news of Nigel’s death from pancreatic cancer on 25 August. He was a fairly recent member of our club, having played bridge and golf for many years at Kingswood Golf & Country Club - he was an extremely keen golfer!

Those of you who came across Nigel at the bridge table will know what a pleasure he was to partner; always cheerful, he enjoyed every game and was never critical. We shall miss his lovely company and good play.

Alan Smith

We are very sad to report that long standing member Alan Smith died suddenly last Thursday 8th May. Alan was a regular at the Ploughmans, and his partner John Brierley has written this tribute. Funeral details will be announced when they are available.

Alan was a strong, kind and witty man. He believed bridge was a game to be enjoyed, both by himself and those around him. Competitive at the table, and rarely reticent in 'discussing' his partner's play, he did so with humour, kindness and genuine friendship. He enjoyed the banter as well as playing the cards

Alan was a pleasure to play with and will be much missed. We offer our condolences to his partner Linda.

Pari Datta

Pari Datta passed away unexpectedly in February after a battle with pneumonia, with his family by his side.  Pari played regularly at the club with Ali Baig, usually on Thursday afternoon.  We send our condolences to his wife Mariette, and their children Sara-Ann and Mark.

Jean Williams

Jean Williams passed away at the end of January.  Her son, Peter wrote to tell us "Both my mother and father spent many a happy morning at the club and since covid mum played regularly on-line. After my father passed away in 2023 and my mother’s mobility reduced the on-line bridge provided her with welcome stimulation and contact with friends".  We send our condolences to Jean's family and friends.
