The second of WBC's 'Back to Basics' session will take place on 20th October starting 14.00, and be run by Tim Chanter.  The topic is 'Finesses'.

Take the two layouts below.  How many tricks do you hope to make in the diamond suit, and upon what does this depend?  Would you play from North or South?

Intermediate Seminar Wednesday 27 October at 14:00
This seminar is on Competitive Doubles

  • One of the most useful bidding tools in contested auctions is the double card
  • You need a clear agreement with your partner about what distribution is shown in any situation, and what level of strength
  • In addition, you need a clear agreement about when a double is for take-out and when it is for penalty

Competitive Doubles 1

The Double card is one of the most useful bidding tools in the contested auction, and can be used in many sequences by opener, responder and the opponents.

How do you interpret partner's Double in the auctions below?  What do you know about her strength and distribution?  Are you forced to bid if the next opponent passes?

  Sequence A

1 Diamond      1 Heart        X

Sequence B

If you would like to find out more about the fascinating world of the competitive double - come along next Wednesday afternoon to the seminar being run by Tim Chanter.  Please book below!
