A Sad Week for Swansea Bridge Club
We recently learned that Diana Panniers, SBC Life President, died on May 5th after a gradual decline over 4 years. Her age was a well kept secret, but her contribution to Welsh Bridge was admirable. She was a formidable player, having won the Welsh Cup and played in the Lady Milne amongst other notable achievements. For many years Diana successfully organised our Porthcawl Congress. Diana was Treasurer of the WWBA from 1990-98, and then Chair 1997-99. She then became President of the Welsh Bridge Union 1999-2000. We send our condolences to her family.
Diana's funeral will be held on Thursday 28th May at 2:30pm at Morriston Crematorium
Then we heard that on May 8th Peter Lane died, aged 83. Peter was SBC Webmaster and a well regarded player. He and his wife Margaret, along with Val and Steve Kennewell, made a formidable team competing in many WBU and EBU Congresses and competitions over many years. Following a period of reduced mobility, he had a series of falls the last of which resulted in pneumonia and other issues. We send our sincere condolences to Margaret. Funeral arrangements. Peter will be buried in the woodland section of Oystermouth cemetery at 10:45 in a family service on the 1st June. His friends and colleagues are invited to join the family at the Mumbles Cricket Club around 11:30 for a humanist celebration of his life. Refreshments will be served. Please no flowers but donations to the RNLI in Peter's memory are welcome

Another Successful Congress
Despite numbers being down somewhat from last year, Porthcawl 2025 can again be deemed a success. Once more it was organised by the amazing Lee Collier, whose organising skills are second to none! We thank Lee, Ian Mitchell (our long suffering Director) and also Jenny Vaughan, whose help over the weekend was invaluable! Our venue was the refurbished Seabank Hotel; its convenient Seafront location with ample parking suits us well. Thank you for hosting us again. Around a hundred people enjoyed a great weekend's Bridge (more photos here) and we are grateful to you all for your support!
2026 congress November 13th-15th at the Seabank - Hold the Date!

Thank you Lee!
This afternoon at Bancyfelin, forty-six people sat down to a thoroughly enjoyable game of bridge in a friendly relaxed atmosphere, with a break for afternoon tea. For once even Dave, our hard working ATO, found time to join in. The afternoon was the brainchild of our very own catering expert Lee Collier who, with the help of her lovely daughter Rachel, served us all with a sumptuous afternoon tea. Our humble Bridge tables were covered with posh table cloths and set with vintage China to enhance the whole experience!
