Welcome to Westbury Bridge Club

The 2025 Xmas party will be on 18th December. Members only, with table money as normal. Setting up from 12.30. Drinks from 12.45. Eating from 13.00. Bridge from about 13.30. Maybe less boards than usual to allow for prize awards, tidying up, etc.

From Jan 2025 table money will be £3 members, £4 non-members. Annual subs will remain unchanged (£15).

We normally play 24 board duplicate pairs, starting 1.30 (so be there by 1.20 at the latest), finishing 4.30 each Thursday.

The club is in the Grange Farm Centre, Grange Farm Lane, Chigwell IG7 6DP.  Turn off the roundabout on High Rd Chigwell (A113) into Grange Farm Lane.  The centre is a large modern building on the left, between two playing fields. There is plenty of parking and we play on the first floor (accessible by lift or stairs).

Visitors are welcome, apart from the occasional "members only" events, providing we do not exceed the maximum number of tables (this is 10, to allow for space between tables and to help keep the noise down (a bit!)).  New membership applications are welcome, although there may be a waiting list. The club is affiliated to the English Bridge Union and club members are automatically members of the EBU. Visitors do not need to be EBU members.

Courteous behaviour is a very important part of everyone's enjoyment of Bridge. Click the link on the left to see the EBU's guidelines on best behaviour. We don't need any arguments or unpleasantness.

There is seldom a good reason to ask about an unalerted bid during the auction. If you do ask a question it should be done when it is your turn to bid. The time to ask questions, if any, is usually when the opening lead is made.

Give credit when opponents have made a good bid or play. Also credit your partner when appropriate.

Be considerate to the director (who will usually be playing as well so has limited time). A key director role is to reach an amicable solution to any issues that come up. To this end it's important that you call the director early when there's a dispute. Speak one at a time (the player who calls the director goes first) and don't get into an argument.
