Minutes of the West Bridgford Bridge Club Annual General Meeting held
on Monday 24th April 2017
Present: D Hazeldine in the chair and 22 members in attendance.
1. Minutes of the last meeting
The minutes of the meeting held on 25th April 2016 were unanimously approved.
2. Matters Arising
3. Treasurer's Report
Ian Dovey reported that the club had made a small loss of £250 in the last 12 months. This
was largely due to the loss of members. There was effectively no change in the overall
club finances and therefore there would be no change to the subscription (£15) or the table
Ian thanked David Dunford for examining the accounts.
The accounts were unanimously approved.
4. Chairman's Report
David Hazeldine presented his first chairman's report.
Membership has had a mixed year. We have had some new members but generally this
has been offset by other members moving out of the area. We need 7/8 tables to cover the
room cost and the EBU levy.
We entered two teams in the Nottingham Teams of 8 competition. The A team ended up
being relegated from division 1 by a narrow margin. The B achieved a creditable third in
division 3. On occasion it has been very difficult to find enough players for the B team and,
with the impending loss of 3 potential team members, the committee have reluctantly
decided to enter a single team for the 2017/2018 competition. Many thanks to Shirley
Ashtari and Sheila Soper for all their hard work in running their respective teams.
David then thanked all the members who have helped to keep the club running smoothly.
This includes the tournament directors, the committee (in in particular to Ian Dovey for
preparing the boards and entering the results on the club’s web-site) and all those who
help to set up and pack away the tables etc.
A return to the Rushcliffe Arena does not look to be viable as the prospective room is too
David concluded by saying that the committee is always keen to attract new members.
Tim Anderson is standing down from the committee. He was warmly thanked for his past
contributions and in maintaining the club’s web-site, which will now be taken over by Clive
Utkarsha Joshi has indicated that he is willing to replace Tim on the committee, so the
remaining committee members are re-elected en-bloc with the following positions:
Chairman: David Hazeldine
Vice-chairman: Dave Beaumont
Treasurer: Ian Dovey
Secretary: Clive Goode
Committee members: Shiona Dawson, Utkarsha Joshi
There was a request for the production of a membership list in order to assist members in
arranging partners. Ian Dovey and Clive Goode agreed to look into this.
The meeting concluded at 7:14 and was followed by bridge.
