Here are our duplicate play guidelines and I ask you all to do your very best to adopt them in full as it will benefit us all in making our sessions run a lot more smoothly. In particular can we all from now on leave the boards in the middle of the table during each round. These guidelines are followed in all Bridge Clubs and other events such as Café Bridge, so fully embracing these guidelines will put you in good stead.
Sitting North and Bidding
- Before each round North checks that the right people are sitting at the table with the correct boards are orientated North and in number order. North then invites players to remove their cards.
- The boards must stay in the centre of the table throughout the round.
- When you take the cards count them to check you have 13 as sometimes, they may be misplaced from the previous round.
- The bidding proceeds and once the auction is over all players must keep the bidding cards in place.
- At any time during the bidding players can ask what a bid means but they can only ask the player opposite the bidder in question.
- Then North enters the contract on the BriAn app.
- Before the lead is made the player asks their partner “any questions” to check that no queries need clarifying in the bidding and then places the card face down. Once partner says “no questions” the card is turned over and the lead is established.
- Only then can the bidding cards be put back as the player on lead needs to check the bidding sequence before deciding what to lead.
- Before the score is entered it is essential that all players leave the 13 played cards in front of them undisturbed. This allows any player to query the number of tricks made as sometimes tricks are placed the wrong way round during the play.
- Only put the cards back into the board when the tricks made are agreed by the whole table so that the score can be entered.
- Before you put the cards back in the board, please shuffle.
Sitting East
- East has the responsibility to check the score and agree to it. North passes the app over for East to check and tick the box.
- If a mistake is realised later, Andrew can correct the score.
