F.A.Q.s
1. Is this group online or Face to Face?
It is an online group as participants do not necessarily live in the same place.
--------------------------------------
2. I have not played for a few years. Has Bridge changed since 1980?
Bridge play and defence has not changed much. Some bidding systems have been improved since then.
--------------------------------------
3. Which bidding system is the group using?
All our material is based on the No Fear Bridge website, which uses Modern ACOL. This is a British system which predominates in British clubs.
--------------------------------------
4. What is the difference between Basic Acol and Modern Acol?
Very little, mainly the 2D, 2H and 2S opening bids.
--------------------------------------
5. Is ACOL a natural system?
Pretty much, you can get by with only three artificial bids. Other conventions are available from the No Fear Bridge Improver and Advancer courses
--------------------------------------
6. I played bridge many years ago and would like to play again. Is this possible?
We are running a regular duplicate session on RealBridge for Returners every Tuesday- further details here
--------------------------------------
7. I completed a Beginners course and want to learn more about bridge. What opportunities from the u3a are available for me to improve my bridge?
You can play online Bridge with other u3a members, application form here. You also may wish to use the online resources, (see below for list of available resources).
--------------------------------------
8. How much will it cost?
There is a six month free 'package' available to u3a members consisting of 24/7 online playing sessions on BridgeClubLive (BCL). Click here for BCL's standard price list. This offer is only available if you are not a present/previous member of BCL.
--------------------------------------
9. What is Realbridge?
The u3a Bridge Group also uses the Realbridge platform because it is a British website that allows you to see and talk to your partner and opponents whilst playing bridge. It is the closest experience online to playing bridge “face to face”, with friends or your local club. You can read more about it here.
