Initial Handicaps for the 2022/23 Season

Tullamore handicap system is based on actual results. With the COVID break we have none. So I propose to assign handicaps based on the players CBAI  grade from last season as follows :

CBAI grade                        Handicap                           % to get to win with  65%
Master                                   0                                                  65
A1                                         -5                                                  60
A2                                        -8                                                   57
B1                                        -11                                                 54
B2                                        -14                                                 51
N1                                        -17                                                 48
N2                                        -20                                                 45

Example

Assuming you need  a nett score 65% to win.

A complete newbie joining this year would require a score of just 45% to win.

A player say of 3 years playing , CBAI Grade B2 requires a score of 51% to get 65% and win!

A very experienced club player, CBAI Grade A1 requires a score of 60% to achieve the winning score of 65%

Of course the winning score may well be higher or lower than 65%

Initial Handicap Adjustments

.The clubs goal is everyone wins equal number of Nett prizes not just the few!

The initial and very crude Handicap system described above will need adjustments to make equal Nett prizes distribution.

When there is sufficient statistical data to go back to out normal handicap system we will, probably in the New Year time frame.{as described below}

Until then, I propose we reduce players handicaps {make it harder!} by 0.5% every  time the player wins a nett prize

...........................................................................................................................................................................................................

1. Setting Players handicaps

Using the CBAI Handicap Guidelines, handicaps are shown for all Club Members.

  • A player's handicap is the difference, in percentage, between the Club’s average winning percentage (currently about 62%) and the player’s average gross percentage over a period. For example, a player with an average of 50% would have a handicap of 62-50 =  12%

Usually we go back to the last season of play to determine a player's average gross score. If the player did not play last year we will use nay previuos resuts within the club, failing this we set a handciap base on CBAI grade and subject to judement of the handicap committee.

At the end of every month oan email from the treaurer will be send to the scorrer with names of the 1st -3rd winners of the net prizes. The scorer will them reduce the handicap of each winner by 0.5% per prize won during this period. If player FRED starting with and handicap of 12 wins  during the month 1st ner, 2 2nd netts and 2 third ner prozes , winning a total of 5 net prizes FRED handicap would be adjusted to 12- 0.5*5 = 9.5 for the rest of the season. If fred wins further prizes the subsequent months fred handicaps will be reduced further.

 2. How are handicaps used in scoring?

(a) Fred with handicap of 12. Fred has had a average game and got a gross score of 50% . His score is adjusted up by his handicap of 50 +12  to 62% a potential winning score

if he has a poorer game say 45% his new adjusted net score becomes 45 + 12 = 57%

if he has a good week and gets a gross score of 55%  is adjusted to 55+12 = 67% a winning score!

(b) Liz is new so her  handicap is 22%

She score a very reputable 45% gross adjusted  to 45+22 = 67 %  winning score!
