A letter of thanks from Brandon Trust |
For those members and guests who attended Garden Party Bridge in August 2023, you will remember Tudor were raising money for Brandon Trust. We have sent the cash to them and they very kindly acknowledged receipt in a letter, an extract is shown below:-
'I am writing ... to extend our very sincere thanks for your recent fundraising efforts for this charity. We really appreciate the donations you have made both last year and this year from your club events, and want you to know that this really does make a difference to the work we do... Our enterprise work creates invaluable opportunities for people with learning disabilities to develop new skills and secure paid employment. This work doesn’t receive any statutory funding, so we rely on being able to raise funds to support this... Thanks again for choosing to support our work at Brandon Trust and I would be grateful if you could convey our thanks to your members.
Wishing the Tudor Bridge Club every continued success.
Yours sincerely
Helen England
Chief Executive Officer'

Summer Bridge Party 2024 |
What a day that was. After about 3 months of planning everything went smoothly, at least we hope it appeared that way to our guests!
Thanks from across the field to the kitchen team - James, Lesley, Bren and Annie. Also to the director Nigel and all those who helped set up the room and put everything away after the event.
Two more special thank yous go to Michelle who did her usual sterling job of taking photos around the room and so never has a record of being there herself. And also to John Holt, who although he had no partner for the day offered to turn up and help out in whatever way he could. As it turned out we needed him and he played with Nigel - and they went on to win a bottle of champagne each. That is karma for you.
Here are a few pics from the day to remind you how much fun we had.

Thank you Alan |
Alan Monaghan is not a member of Tudor, he doesn't even play cards, but he made all the difference to how Tudor's latest event, Garden Party Bridge, ran. Not only did he help with the set up, he was also our main photograher on the day, and last, but by no means least, he hosted the band on behalf of the club. Thank you Alan, from the entire committee and membership. Much appreciated. We really couldn't have done it so well without you.

Several of our guests from Garden Party Bridge 2022 have asked . . . … |
... what happened to the bikini wearing gnome from the raffle prizes? Great news. Her new owner, David, has been in contact to give an update on her situation. She has been christened Maude, and is now happily ensconced in her new home. Thank you David. Enjoy your new life Maude.

GARDEN PARTY BRIDGE 2019 - SURPRISE RESPONSE FROM ATTENDEES!
On a beautiful sunny day in early July 2019, Tudor Bridge Club hosted their first ever Garden Party Bridge event, in the heart of the historic town of Chipping Sodbury.
The venue was the bunting laden, hidden gardens, of St Lawrence Presbytery. A picture perfect setting, in perfect weather. A blissful, peaceful and perfect setting for a relaxing day with a few hands of bridge.
Who would have thought the main topic of the day would be the food?
The day began with home made cookies, shortbread and gluten free biscuits with tea and coffee enjoyed in the summer sunshine. Then, on to the bridge. Until, when, the bridge paused for lunch the guests were offered a choice of Prosecco, white or red wine or chilled soft drinks before lunch. A previous MasterChef winner (James Nathan) had made the Smoked Salmon terrine served with the lunch and had helped with several of the other dishes too, including 2 vegetarian and 2 non vegetarian quiches, Coronation chicken and a fabulous display of side dishes including the wonderful Courgette and Orange salad. The sweet trolley featured Eton Mess, Chocolate Roulade, a Raspberry Cheesecake and a cheeseboard too. Just a few more hands of cards and afternoon tea was served. There were plates and plates full of the best quality homemade fayre from Scones with Clotted Cream and Strawberry Jam, Ginger cake, Chocolate, Banana and Walnut cake, gluten free Lemon cake and Coffee and Walnut cake.
Small wonder all anyone wanted to talk about all day was the quality and variety of the food! There wasn't a mention anywhere of how cruel the cards had been that day.
The event culminated with a raffle for MacMillan Cancer Support, raising over £200, with gifts kindly donated by local businesses, before the final prize giving. The prizes were bottles of champagne for the pair with the most modest score (Norma Hutchings and John Maubach), for the pair who scored nearest to 50% (Ann Triner and Tony Baldwin-Charles) and for the pair who came top (Betty and Richard Harris).
