Appeals Procedure

This procedure covers appeals against the decision of the Tournament Director at a club evening in accordance with Law 92

  1. When informing the players of a judgement ruling the Tournament Director should always advise them that they have a right of appeal, which should initially be made to the Tournament Director himself

  2. Having received a notification of a desire to appeal the Tournament Director should consult with the most senior Tournament Director available at the time. This consultation should also include at least one more experienced player where matters of bridge judgement, rather than law, are concerned. When agreement has been reached the Tournament Director should give the ruling, which may or may not have been revised, to the players concerned

  3. If the players still wish to appeal then the Tournament Director will telephone an EBU Panel Tournament Director, from the list in the diary, for a ruling. At this stage an EBU appeal form should be completed, to ensure that the facts are correctly documented. (Note that it may now be the other pair that wishes to appeal if the initial ruling has been overturned.) This decision will be passed on to the players and should be treated as final

  4. Players not satisfied with a final ruling can raise the matter with the club Committee and indeed with the National Authority, but such an appeal would be considered exceptional

  5. Deposits will not be taken for appeals at this stage. However, the Committee may amend this procedure in the future if required
